Re: Furuno 1712 repair tec.

Try reconnecting the 3 (?) multi pin connectors in the radome. Even if they look clean I've had this same problem and disconnecting/reconnecting solved the blank screen for me.

Re: Gasoline with ethanol question (again)

Here in the San Juan Islands ethanol free gas is available at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes and also in West Sound on Orcas Island.
I've heard a lot of complaints about ethanol causing problems in a...

Re: Canadian boat purchase for USA import

We just did this last fall, not too difficult although use of a customs broker is the easiest way to avoid complications when you arrive at the US Customs dock. You will need to fill out a form...

Re: Removing Deck Hardware Fasteners - No Luck

We had the same problem when we removed our cleats, they were a bugger. Spray some PB Blaster on them several times and let soak for a couple of days. Buy, rent or borrow an impact driver and get...

Re: Zephyr 15s14r 1984 marries with ??

I would guess a dealer could answer your question, not likely many have done/tried this. Good luck.

Re: Lexan/polycarbonate vs acrylic

You could use either polycarb or acrylic. The poly will be stronger but will scratch easier, the acrylic will stay clear and is more resistant to scratches. The problem I see is how they are...

Re: Help me find a 40-ish foot pilothouse

Like looking for a needle in a haystack, eh? Hard to find the right combination at the right price in a pilothouse. With an unlimited budget, no problem (Amazon, Waterline, Nauticat, Cabo Rico,...

Re: Most Useful Sailing Tool

Most used probably a good knife/leatherman.
Most often needed would be screw drivers and wrenches.
Next (for me anyway), cordless drill/driver (I prefer the Makita with lithium batt).

Re: Senior moments .. what's yours?

Apart from normal minor mistakes (leaving the shore power cord connected to the dock while trying to back out of the slip, forgetting to flip the windlass breaker on until on the bow ready to raise...

If you haven't already read Mainsails thread on through hull replacement I highly recommend it. I think it's a sticky in the maintenance section.

Re: Nauticat 38 for offshore sailing. Thoughts?

Nauticat's construction quality is top notch and the interior woodwork is absolutely beautiful. I've never sailed one but there have been a few in to the marina here and the owners tend to love them...

Maybe when they get a look at your "dinghy" the "threat" will disappear?

Re: NAV/RADAR Monitor Size

For a dedicated radar display 5X6" is plenty big even with old eyes (I should know:-)). I have a 12" display on our fishing boat, radar overlay, etc and I don't find it any more accurate or readable...

Re: STUFF to seal leak at mast step

The problem would be if you stop the leak from inside the water will accumulate and seep into the deck core (if I understand what you are describing correctly). You might end up turning an annoying...

Re: Silly oil change question

This is what I use, works great. You just attach the hose to the top of the dipstick tube with the oil good and hot and then pump the handle about 50 times and release the crimper on the hose. ...

Re: Depth Gauge vs. Fishfinder

A depthsounder is arguably the most important instrument on board. Whether you use a sounder or fishfinder is a matter of preference and mounting space. The fishfinder has advantages over just a...

Re: Costs of trucking a boat??

My son had his Bayfield 36 (LOA 41', beam 12', app. 20,000 lbs) shipped from NC to Anacortes, WA about a year ago, I think it was around $11-12K just for trucking. He got a lot of quotes from Uship...

Re: Selling a boat slip in Anacortes. Any advice?

Med, you might try an ad in 48 North. Anchor Cove is a good marina, should be some interest for an easy in/out slip there. Just about the same distance to the San Juans as Skyline and in town.

Re: What did you learn to sail on?

Dad bought a Vivacity 20 (twin keeled British design) in the mid 60's when I was in high school and I tried everything I could think of to try and make it go into wind :-)) About 10-15 years later...

Re: Radar signature

I agree with York, while there is nothing wrong with installing something to try and reflect a better radar return I think it gives people a largely false sense of security. Actively monitoring your...
