Re: NY/CT/LIS Boatyard & Marina help?

I keep my boat at Lecomte Marina, New Rochelle New York (http://lecomtemarina.com/) in New Rochelle. I think it meets most of your criteria (but I don't know where it falls on the price scale -...

Re: Simrad IS15 Experiences

I have the Simrad IS15 wind and NASA Clipper masthead unit. I like the Simrad, but the combo never really worked well for me. The Clipper has no documented alignment. You can calibrate it, but...

Re: Whats your best bit of kit??

I am very pleased with my Dutchman Boom Brake. I used to avoid gybing when sailing solo in all but the lightest wind, and now gybing is part of the fun. The satisfaction comes from the way the boom...

Re: solar recommendations

I bought the mono panel because it is a couple inches shorter. Yesterday I picked up some pieces of aluminum flat bar and angle bar at home depot to mount it.

Re: solar recommendations

I recently ordered a 50 watt panel from Renogy (http://www.renogy-store.com/). I haven't installed it yet, and I don't know enough about solar panels to comment on the quality. They seemed to have...

Re: Would PEX work for mast wiring through-deck?

I drilled out the area, taped the bottom, put the pvc sections in place, and poured thickened epoxy around them. I was also replacing the pedestal guard feet which required drilling some new holes,...

Re: Would PEX work for mast wiring through-deck?

I used pvc for a similar purpose (standpipes inside the helm pedestal guard tubes). I don't know how strong the bond is, but the pvc doesn't budge, and no water was come in.

Re: Pearson 33-2 Wing Keel or Pearson 34 Centerboard

My sense is that there is a somewhat significant difference in pointing (at least in racing terms) but I haven't raced my boat (the fin keel) much, so it is hard for me to compare.

On the boat I...

Re: Pearson 33-2 Wing Keel or Pearson 34 Centerboard

I own a P33-2 fin keel (hull #27 iirc), and race on a centerboard version (doing it backwards, I know). I haven't been on the wing keel version so I can't compare.

My hull appears to be partially...

Re: OMG i need liveaboard soon.

Some marinas don't allow liveaboards, or restrict their numbers - sometimes this is to comply with local laws. My town (in New York State), for example, limits each marina to a certain percentage of...

Re: Stuffing box ooze

I think if the packing gland doesn't feel hot you can continue running it... give it another 10 or 20 minutes (checking frequently for heat) and by then it should start to drip water. I observed the...

Re: Bob Perry's take on Wolfenzee's dream boat

Re: Use of Yanmar Oil versus store bought oil

I use the Yanmar oil because the dealer is located near my marina, and it probably doesn't amount to that much cost difference considering 1-2 oil changes per year. I'm sure there are plenty of...

Re: Toe rail refinish/rebed 1987 pearson

On my 1986 Pearson 33-2 the core ends at a tapered edge about 1 inch (if memory serves) before the inside edge of the toerail. I am pretty sure the 31-2 is constructed the same way.

Check out...

Re: Opinions/Reviews of CLIPPER Wind Instrument - Please !!

I strongly agree with Chuck. ^

Re: pearson 31-2 ice box

I have the Pearson 33-2 and the icebox drain is plumbed to a hand pump that pumps into the sink in the head. I believe your boat is similar, except that the pump is located next to the galley sink....

And to this end- sail the boat within the abilities of the crew. There might be good reasons for their nervousness... not that the boat is going to tip over, but that they don't feel they can move...
