Re: Rum enjoyment

I am going to revive this thread again. It has always been one of my favorites.

I just got back from Cartagena Colombia and tried the best of the local stuff. I was very impressed with El...

Re: Laguna Windrose 25 refit

Can you post some pictures? It is hard visualize what you are talking about if someone hasn't been on that particular style of boat.

Re: Best tablet for sailing

Most of the older or cheaper tablets didn't come with GPS capabilities. But the more newer ones do, except for the really low end models. I wouldn't buy one without reading the specs but you can...

Re: Boat Show "Specials"

Sales mean different things online than when you are shopping in person. Online nothing is ever on sale because you just price it against every other vendor out there. When you are physically...

Re: Best tablet for sailing

This isn't the answer you are looking for but I use my old iPhone 4s with the free Navionics app and a free tide chart that just said tide chart as the title when I downloaded. I mostly do coastal...

Re: What makes a good marina?

When people stay at the marina where I work at the number one thing people ask after I dock them is if we have a pool or not. I am sure there are things higher on their list of priorities but that...

Re: C-22 Keys vacation

Good thread. I live within short driving distance of the keys and have always wanted to trailer my boat down there but never have. Although mine is too small to stay on. I stayed at an airbnb...

Re: Boat Recommendations

From what you have said I would skip looking at catboats. Most of the boats you have mentioned that you like have some sort of performance characteristics. Catboats do not. The are sluggish and so...

Re: Is this a good boat for price 1976 Albin 26 ft. for $250 bucks

Generally when boats sell for that cheap they are not a bargain. But I haven't seen any pics so I guess I shouldn't rush to judge.

Re: Need Help Sailing

I live in Naples. If you need help daysailing I could probably make the trip over sometime. I am off work most Sunday, Monday's and Tuesday's.

Re: Best spray on / spray off deck cleaner for sailboats

I have had a lot of luck using Spray 9. We use it at the marina where I work at to clean our rental boats. Out of all the products we have used it is the most effective.

Re: What is your favorite sailing Novel?

I am not sure if this is my favorite sailing novel but it is one that I am reading now. It is called "The Wreck of the Grosvenor." It is in the style of Melville, but is much easier to read. I...

Re: Com-Pac Sun Cat 17

When you mean turn away, do you mean the boat won't tack and you go back to the direction that you started from? Cat boats aren't known for their tacking abilities, or pointing abilities for that...

Re: Suggestions for a first boat

That is one awesome looking boat (picture). I have a feeling the photo has been touched up a bit to make it sell better. Not to say it is a bad boat or anything.

Re: Suggestions for a first boat

The Compac 23 is also a nice boat. A little more difficult to rig than their smaller boats but also more comfortable sail. They have been in production for a long time so they can be reasonably...

Re: Good Small Boat for Older, Fatter Woman to learn on

I have a Bauer 12. It is a great boat to learn on. It is kind of a hybrid between a cat boat and a sloop. Although I think most people like to think of it as a cat boat just because of its salty...

Re: 26 foot catalina open water?

Marco Island gets a bad rap for not liking people anchoring out. And it's true that the powers that be don't like it but there isn't much that they can do about it either. I work at a marina on...

Re: 26 foot catalina open water?

I agree with all the previous posts. You need to be able to wait on good weather. And figure out what your next closest safe harbor every time you leave your anchorage in the morning. That way if...

Re: Bauer 12 mast help

So once I get the mast up I don't have to worry about the holes. I think they were slotted all the way down to begin with. The slot is just a lot bigger now.

Bauer 12 mast help

I purchased a new to me Bauer 12 yesterday. Today's post was supposed to be "hey look at my new boat." Unfortunately I am posting about how to repair what I tore up while trying to rig it. Or I...
