Re: Thought there was something strange..

^This is probably your best policy honestly. But the topic makes perfect sense actually... as is the comment about using a portable VHF, or anything magnetic near the fluxgate compass. This was a...

Re: cabin headroom?

Buy a catamaran, tons of room, if that is the only goal.

Also sounds like this is a new "idea" to sailing extended cruises with the wife. All I can say is, good luck.

Please tell me you aren't...

Re: Mainsheet and jib lines needed

5/16" would be as small as I'd go too, they'll be way overkill for strength, but at that size they'll be plenty light enough, and easy to handle.

I had 3/8" on my Capri 14.2 for genoa sheets, and...

Re: Mainsheet and jib lines needed

Um I wouldn't go bigger than 5/16 on the p165... Also for sheets, and control lines, basic sta-set X will work. Ebay is probably your cheapest source.

Re: Anchor light

Catalina used pop rivets for most of their sheaves and the sort... easy enough to drill them out, and replace.

Also the bottom of the mast you can usually take the whole thing off, to expose the...

Re: Rebuilding a mast. Boom diameter.

I can't imagine the 1/4" being the end of the world. That's an ambitious rerig though... good luck.

Re: Bottle holders for cockpit

I LOVE these... I've purchased a few, 2 for the old boat, 2 for this boat, and one for my tractor (yes my tractor).. they mount with hook and loop, are canvas, and cleanable... have mesh bottoms, and...

Re: Lots of questions tonight--running riggings

I was digging because I didn't understand your question. Found this video. Couple things struck me... The boat had stanchions and lifelines (maybe owner installed?)... but that'd make dealing with...

Re: Raising & lowering sails

I know the p165 doesnt have stanchions or lifelines, but rigging something up might make it easier to collect the jib on raise and lower.

Re: Running one sail

Lazy jacks (or dutchman flaking) and the main becomes less of a bother. I'm for balancing sail myself. With a strong fractional rig, the main will be more powered up and balanced alone, on a...

Re: Beneteau First 285

Digging up old posts specifically like this make sense to me. Mostly because sometimes you want to find out all info on a particular boat. I myself dragged up this thread many times trying to find...

Newb or not you have MUCH potential. Even you can spot, "Jack of all trades, master of none." Despite DRFerron's reservations.

Re: Any opinions on RK Industries 1978 21 ft

Spoken like a person who hasn't tried to sell a 4ktsb lately.

Yeah its small money paid. Yeah everything else he said is correct (it's only money)... however, selling an older boat even at...

Re: Ideas for a small, simple, offshore, family cruiser.......

Am I late?
I think Mac 26x is the ONLY option. You see in the "What boat to buy" category someone is required to mention it.

Yeah since this is very much a personal preference laden thing......

Re: Is this a dumb idea?

The idea is fine... I'd add a level of safety to it, by raising the side of the trailer by jacking it up, that you are dropping the trailer support... this will tilt the boat on the opposite side...

Re: Hunter 27 - A Little Look Please?

Maybe different insurance companies have different requirements... but mine didn't want to see the boat, nor cared if I only had liability... it's a 26 footer, but on a trailer (maybe that's the...

Re: Hunter 27 - A Little Look Please?

Yep, I have minimum insurance on my boat, it's a requirement to be in the water at our marina... it does nothing to cover MY boat, only any damage I do to others boats or property.

By the way,...

Re: Sailboat hits Power Line in Cocoa, Florida!
