Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

As to cutting the liner, I'm really on the fence about it. If I cut it I really have to seal it back up because water would just pour out of it, as it had in the past when it was full of holes I...

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

Actually I called WEST the other day and they had exactly nothing to suggest. I asked about the foam idea and they said "that might work." And that really was the sum total of their contribution. I...

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

This weekend if I can find the time, I'll see if I can grab two small sheets of plexiglass or something, build them together with a 1 or so inch gap, and test this whole theory. I think this would be...

Re: Kiwi-grip Non-Skid deck finish...

I have a quart of white sitting here, waiting for me to experiment with it. I have watched many videos on it, and most showed the benefit of using a notched trowel and practicing on a piece of wood....

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

Hm... Okay thanks for the tips everyone. I see I need to give this much more thought. The traveler has been mounted where it is for years, it came this way, and I have always felt it was wrong. In...

Re: How effective is a passive air vent on mooring

They sound much like white noise and don't keep people who sleep on my boat up, but frankly, I turn them off at night. I'm just very picky that way, wanting dead darkness and dead quiet.

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

I'm mounting the mainsail traveler, which would have considerable load, and some foot rests, which have some shear stress but not a lot of load.

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

Some random thoughts... If I cut the liner and just bolt to the underside of the thin deck, my thinking is that I'll have much less strength. By making the deck thicker, I can make the platform much...

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

This what I'm leaning toward doing. The stuff-the-foam-into-the-void idea seems like a good method but I need to use thickened epoxy for strength and I don't know if thickened epoxy would seep into...

Re: How effective is a passive air vent on mooring

My boat came with the dorades, and a lot of mold too. I installed solar Nicro, one in front sucking in and two aft venting out, and this has worked very well for me. They work day and night, wind or...

Re: Masthead: Cotter pins or rings?

I don't see a problem with the rings but cotter pins are readily available and I never reuse them, even where they are accessible. I do use silicon over them to reduce the chance of them tearing a...

Adhesive / Sealant comparison chart ??

Hi folks, there used to be posted somewhere a comparison chart of the more commonly used sealants and adhesives, but I can't find it. It listed their strength, elasticity and such. Does anyone have a...

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

Its not so much a headliner as a big molded piece of plastic that is shaped like the cockpit, placed in there and then the berth and such is all built around it. It can't come out.

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

Is this the foam people buy at Home Depot or the like to insulate cracks and such? I thought that would be porus after hardening?

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

I was thinking it would flow into the void and never reach the top, of it it did it would make like a little hill in there, wider at the bottom and narrow at the top.

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

Wow, lots of great ideas THANKS!

By "spreading out" I meant just basically flowing in the giant void without actually building up.

To answer the questions, the boat is a Scampi 30 MK IV built...

How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

Hi All...

This is a hard problem to describe. My cockpit is not cored or anything like that, just a solid piece of plastic. Below it is a liner and there is a half inch to one inch gap between the...

Re: Looking for a Yanmar 2GMF starter motor

I did think to have it rebuilt, but that of course involves down time and also, the case is pretty rusty. There are some soft spots. I actually would like to have the entire engine services, but that...

Looking for a Yanmar 2GMF starter motor

Hi All...

My Yanmar 2GMF starter motor has seen better days, and its time to replace it. The local places want about $350 for the motor with solenoid, which is pretty pricy. I did some looking and...

Hi All...

I'll be in Palm Beach, FL next week, and a friend and I would love to go sailing. Sadly, Google has been unable to help me find a boat rental company with sail boats, unless of course...

As for fuel cells using water to make power:...
