Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

I see - I was dealing with a void maybe 1/4" thick, so the epoxy just filled the whole void up. Yours is much wider, so the epoxy might not work as well.

If you put enough colloidal silica in the...

Re: How to put epoxy for screw mounting into a void???

Faced with the same issue, I just drilled right through, and injected thickened epoxy with a syringe from both sides. Worked fine.

Not sure what you mean about the epoxy spreading out, isn't that...

Re: what is this goo in my bilge?

Does the 29.9 have the same deep bilge as the 31.1? Something like 4 feet deep?

I find that mine is always wet, and now and then starts to smell terrible. This is bacterial growth. It can also be...

Re: Bottom paint question

Generally, what you need to do is get down to a sound, smooth surface. If all the paint is peeling off and losing adhesion, you want to get down to the gelcoat. If, on the other hand, you have sound...

Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

I understand that insurance companies rely on the fact that most people live hand to mouth, to pay less out on claims.

If you can afford to get the replacement vehicle immediately from your own...

Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

"Hopefully you or a loved one are never injured due to someone else's negligence. It can be a nightmare of a situation for many years to come."

I hope that too. What I'm uncomfortable with is the...

Re: Repowering with a Tractor Motor

The starter motor on my Universal diesel appears to be completely standard. Are you saying it is a special marine one and sealed in some way? Cross-referencing the Universal part number leads to a...

Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

I recently dealt with Geico over a rear end accident that wasnt my fault. Really, it could not have been easier. As for dealing with injury attorneys, I am glad that they are circumspect when it...

Re: Big Cockpit Speakers

The ipod is a tool like any other. You can use it in various different ways. It was designed to be a portable music player. In that role, it is a significant improvement on what came before. Remember...

Re: Universal to Kubota Parts list?

The issue with a dry manifold is not so much the radiated heat, it's the exhaust temperature entering the rest of the exhaust, which is made with RUBBER hosing. In fact, wrapping the exhaust manifold...

Re: Universal to Kubota Parts list?

I've no idea where you got $500 from, for the marinised exhaust manifold. As far as I know, they are not available new for any price. In fact, if you know where to get one, let me know, because I'll...

Re: Engine Instruments Fail to Read - Help!

Did you know that Rustoleum bronze spray paint is a not bad match for the Universal gold colour? Good enough anyway, for $7 vs. 40, per can.

RUST-OLEUM Spray Paint, Metal Dark Bronze, 15 oz....

Re: Big Cockpit Speakers

I seriously considered naming the boat after an ELO song, for a while. Mr Blue Sky would be an obvious candidate.

Re: Big Cockpit Speakers

What I have done, and I recommend this approach, is to install waterproof marine speakers in the cockpit. However, most of my listening is done through the speakers in the salon. They are a quality...

Re: Ship-to-Shore radio (handheld or wired)

Try sailing around SF Bay for a day (ideally, wait until 4th of July or the day of the Parade of Ships) with the fixed VHF on, listen to some of the cretins that are allowed to use them, and then...

Re: 1 rescued, 1 dead, 4 missing in Mobile Bay Regatta

I actually find the reduced range of the handheld to have some advantages. Firstly, the chatter on the fixed VHF is just ridiculous. On the handheld, it is greatly reduced. My attitude is this : If I...

Re: 1 rescued, 1 dead, 4 missing in Mobile Bay Regatta

I think the problem is that it is Sea Tow who are doing it. Here in SF Bay, it seems to be Vessel Assist who are the main providers of towing, and they are not involved in the ARC provision.

Re: 1 rescued, 1 dead, 4 missing in Mobile Bay Regatta

Here in San Francisco Bay you will hear the Coastguard announce an announcement (as it were) on 16, with an instruction to switch to 22A for the details. I do remember one weather alert done this...

Re: Winch mounting - how to seal?

Re: Proper Starter Battery Fusing and wiring sizing

For fusing, have you seen the Blue Sea Systems ones that fit directly to the batteries? Good for adding fusing to an existing installation.
