Re: Smackdaddy needs your thoughts/prayers

There are certainly no words that can make things "ok" - but FWIW, I really feel your loss. Life is precious, fragile, and every moment counts. I hope you can take solace in the good time you had...

Re: Good Deal (Polar View) from Active Captain

East coast of USA is free ;)

No idea how they get Canadian charts at that price. If you contact CHS and find out anything useful - please let me know.

Re: Good Deal (Polar View) from Active Captain

Sorry, nothing I can do about that. Write to your friendly Canadian chart service (CHS) and let them know you are interested in better chart licensing prices :)

That said, I think Navionics ENC...

Re: Good Deal (Polar View) from Active Captain

The GRIB file for Gulfstream *is* the RTOFS model, and it is already built into PolarView.

Re: Good Deal (Polar View) from Active Captain

Just to make sure (although this is a good deal, methinks - but hey, I am slightly biased):

There is no "30 day money back guarantee".
There is a:
1. Free 30 day trial. I.e. there is no need to...

Re: Corsair 24 Mk II as a first boat?

Since, as you admit, you don't own F-24 and I did own one and sailed it for quite a while, I think I've got a bit more factual data to support my opinion than you do, won't you say?
Also, who said...

Re: Corsair 24 Mk II as a first boat?

I had MkI for some time.

Very lightweight boat. In my experience, it is great for sailing in calm seas with decent wind. The problem I encountered was that whenever wind was good - seas were...

Re: 32' Trimaran - $22k

Is this a wooden boat? The description talks about foam core and epoxy, didn't notice the wood part. Interior does have quite a bit of wood - but that's another story entirely.

If it wasn't that...

Re: Navigation Software

I am sorry, I really can't completely ignore this. As a developer I should keep mum, but since I am also (believe it or not) a human being, here goes.

After years of spending enormous amount of...

Re: Navigation Software

Sometimes, when discussion like this comes up, I think I should just shut down Polar Navy - so that I can openly speak about other navigation products :) But the position requires that I bite my...

Re: Am I Nuts?.....And if so, what do I do now?

Curious. I have almost an opposite problem - no one invites me anywhere :) Fortunately, I enjoy my alone time just fine. But I'd love to have your problem.

Re: Stopping in the US with no visa

Someone I know had a similar situation with a girl from eastern europe. They entered Puerto Rico (without any distress, simply because they wanted to) and USCIS allowed her to stay there for 48 or 72...

Re: interesting rescue worth discussing

These are *news articles*, ergo - information in these is highly unreliable. It is quite possible that they were towed by commercial towing vessels on behalf of CG, which is something that wouldn't...

Re: interesting rescue worth discussing

First, the boat looks to be quite a bit bigger than 49' - compare it to the 47' CG vessel. News articles give varying values, from 45 to 49 - but to me it looks to be at least 60' or so, especially...

Re: Seatalk help needed badly

You need more than speed to get a true wind value calculated (even assuming that their wind instrument can calculate it).

At a *very* least you need speed through water and heading, in addition to...

Re: plotting software

I think we were discussing specifically charts of UK. It costs less than $30 per user to get a complete UK & Ireland coverage of all available chart and scale levels.
