Re: Tips and tricks for getting rid of crab/lobster floats

I've seen a few boat while shopping that have installed cages around prop/shaft. Not sure how well they work to avoid lines.

I've run over a few lobster floats so far, but haven't become fouled on...

:(

Ouch! Sorry to hear you were hurt. Hope if heals fast. Just give yourself a promotion to Commodore and let your buddies work the boat while you spout orders at 'em. :) They'll love that.... ;)

So, I've manage to eliminate almost my entire list of candidate boats for one reason or other.

There is a Tartan 27 that I still have to look at. My impression from walking the docks was of an old...

Re: Sailing on a 1920's Alden Schooner

She is beautiful under sail. I've watched her go in and out a few times this season from just down the street at Portland Yacht Services. Nice to hear you had a good time. :)

Re: Beyond the "Edge"

Thankfully nobody was injured. Judging from the googles, the real drama was the legal fight afterward.

Re: interesting rescue worth discussing

After watching that video above, I'd be surprised if the owners know it has some sails.

Re: Any advice on this boat?

I have a spot in my heart for Cheoy Lee, they are very pretty boats.

That said.

Be prepared for a huge project. At that price, I'm going to bet that the teak deck isn't in the best of shape. If...

Re: interesting rescue worth discussing

Thought 1: Yowzers! That is an ugly boat!

Thought 2: No reason to call for help. That boat ain't sinkin'. The sea don't want her.

Re: I've never sailed in my life... talk me into it.

The best advice so far is to look into clubs, lessons, and shares. You'll get experience, make sailing connections, get to sail on different boats, and figure out what you do/don't like. Then you're...

Update:

My current shortlist in descending order of asking prices, none are out-of-state:

Sabre 28 - 14.6K - well cared for, updated electronics, wheel steering
3 Pearson 30s - 14.5K 11.9K...

Re: Why I am always wary of Power Boaters.....

laws can work if the will, and resources, to enforce them are present.

But that takes manpower, boats, and other resources. That costs money.

Re: Should I run and get this?

Yeah..my first thought is the "most move today", odd payment, and the "owner can't help move it". That makes me worried about a scam.

My understanding of Tanzer 22s is that they are supposed to be...

Re: Husband is doing it "wrong"

This.

I think is where your husband is coming from. He is confusing the adrenelin from "fun" with going fast.

A keelboat like yours will only heel over so far before the sails spill wind, and...

Re: Boat shopping: round two

Re: The Chicken or the Eggs?

As someone who is shopping right now myself, I'd agree with a waste of capital. What you're most likely to do is buy up a bunch of stuff you won't need, and then have a list of other stuff the boat...

Or perhaps finds an old derelict 1940's or 50's era wooden...

Re: Reality at Sea - For Cruisers, Singlehanders, and Normal People.

That's it Smack... if I ever do buy a boat this summer, I'm renaming it "Hubris". :p

I think there is a definite line with the A-S thing. Case studies, and lessons learned are one thing....

Re: Shark Repellent... No, really, it might work!

And here, I always thought this:
Neptunic Custom | Neptunic Sharksuits (http://neptunic.com/sharksuits/neptunic-custom/)

should be a standard part of the ditch-bag.
