Re: Chicago "Strictly Sail"

I go for the seminars and the opportunity to talk with vendors. I enjoyed that aspect of the show. Looking at new sailboats is interesting, but they aren't rigged so all you can see is the interiors....

Savannah, GA in November

My wife has a conference in early November in Savannah, GA. I will be joining her and I was hoping to check out the area around Savannah for possible places to retire and sail. We currently sail on...

There aren't any squid in Lake Michigan and they seem to like their blue lights sitting in the marina. I think it's light pollution

Blue lights?

We are cruising the eastern shore of Lake Michigan and it is so incredibly beautiful shoreline. We've noticed in the marinas more and more blue lights on the sterns of powerboats. What's with all the...

Running rigging life

How often should the running rigging be replaced? I don't want a failure from fatigue. Our lines look okay, other than being dirty, but they could be the original from 1999.

in-mast furler shackle

The boat is in the water and the sails are up. This was the first time we put up our mainsail. It is an in-mast furler on a 1999 Beneteau 352. There is a shackle where you attach the foot of the...

Thanks. That's what I suspected, but never having done one I wasn't sure.

Snaps

There are snaps on the cabin deck for our dodger. They are a snap with a small wood screw in the center that goes into our cabin top.

Uh oh! A couple have come out. Of course you can't just...

Re: Anyone ever buy bigger or new and regret it?

[U/U] You only live once. Don't have regrets. I think you will regret more what you didn't do than what you did do. Go for it an enjoy!

Re: In-mast furler advice

We have a 1999 Beneteau 352 with inmast furler and we haven't had any problems the past two years. I use the topping lift to keep the boom just slightly above level as suggested. Unfurling is...

Re: winch size? How critical?

Now you understand why we want two more winches placed back of the cockpit.

Re: winch size? How critical?

As are we. This is our first boat and you learn what you didn't know after you have sailed a bit.

winch size? How critical?

We have a Beneteau 352 and there are only two winches on the boat, both atop the cabin. We have plans to install two additional winches back near the wheel on the combing with a bracket. The winches...

sail on or sail off?

There was a discussion on our dock the other evening, as the realization that the end of summer sailing season was inevitable. Among those with in-mast mainsail furlers the question was whether to...

topping lift

My topping lift keeps my boom at the right angle for my inmast furler. It keeps the boom from hitting me in the head. But how do I use the topping lift for increasing the performance of my mainsail?

cross cut or tri radial genoa?

We have a Beneteau 352 and need to get a new genoa. Current sail is original to the boat in 1999. We are cruisers, not racers. Looking for a 130% or 155%. I don't know the difference between a...

Re: The great things about owning a sailboat that no one tells you about

You've got it exactly right. I too was worried that I was making a totally irrational decision. But you have hit it right. One thing I would add is that I am still awed by the fact that the wind...
