Re: Bimini Ideas

Have you considered moving your boat to the British Columbia coast? Summer temperatures rarely exceed 65 deg. A good set of rain gear is all you need.

Re: lightning advice

Interesting points discussed here. I was thinking of a lot of the suggestions while in a lightning storm for 5 hrs last August 300 miles west of San Francisco.

I resorted to loud singing and it...

Re: Yanmar Transmission Clutch Problem

How would the gears be turning? Engine is not turning, prop is not turning, gears are not turning.
On my boat, sailing in gear, the prop does not turn the engine against compression.

Re: Yanmar Transmission Clutch Problem

Now that I know how the clutch works I can see why clean fluid is so important.
From now on I might as well change the fluid every time I change the engine oil.

I don't think that leaving the...

Re: Zinc,...where does it go?

Discounting the pirate theory....the zinc ends up in the water.
My theory was, like in electrolytic plating, the zinc migrates to some other metal body and coats that with a thin film of zinc.

Same with steel dock pilings protected with zincs.
Is there...

Re: Yanmar Transmission Clutch Problem

It seems the thrust washer and clutch plates are available.
I am sure I use the correct fluid and it's not the lack of use that caused the failure.
From the first time I noticed a slip to no...

Re: Yanmar Transmission Clutch Problem

Did not run out of oil, no water in tranny. Engine is from the mid 80's no hour meter. Fluid dark, some metal shavings, brass in color. Don't know if the bearings are bad (yet).
