Re: coastal/offshore jacket

The Helly Hansen is a lighter duty jacket. I last wore in Panama in the rain.

The Gill is much heavier duty, higher collar; great in colder weather.

My avatar shot is Helly Hansen

Re: coastal/offshore jacket

I have both Helly Hansen (coastal) and Gill (Atlantic) jackets.

I like both.

Not much help, I guess.

Re: Charting a Course

OpenCPN does that using its own algorithms, which I do not know.

I first noticed this when I set a course from BVI to Panama. It was not quite as dramatic. The long leg of the trip was set to a...

Re: Bent shank on my Danforth Anchor

I would not trust it. Of course, I do not trust any Danforth as a primary anchor.

We could start an anchor war, but I would suggest that you look at a new generation anchor as a replacement. ...

Re: Chart and Compass Reading

I have sailed the Pacific North West for 30 years. It is one of the hardest places to sail - as there is little wind. More importantly it is one of the hardest place to navigate:

Currents can...

Re: Big Freakin' Sails

I have some good shots of the boat, the marina and a couple underway. No canal transit for us, although the two boats that came across with us are going through on their way to Peru.

I will have...

Re: Big Freakin' Sails

The crossing from BVI to Panama was uneventful except for a storm force squall at night that lasted 45 minutes. One crew member claims we hit 16.3 knots. I was too busy dealing with a main.

Re: Why no activity?

Dave

Enjoy Victoria. Have you been to John's Place for breakfast / brunch. :)

I am off to the BVI for a delivery (Leopard 48) to Panama. That may explain my absence.

Re: Motion sickness question. Am I crazy?

Talking about motion seasickness seems to contribute to queasiness.

If someone else gets sick I tend to as well. Normally I can get right back to work.

Only once have I been incapacitated -...
