Re: Wet Decks

Update:

Once I got the report back I talked to the local boat yard and got a quote to repair the soft spot. The owners knocked that amount off of the price and we bought the boat. The fiberglass...

Re: Wet Decks

Thanks, after a more in-depth conversation with him tonight he told me that the main area of concern is aft of the port side chainplate area near the start of the Genoa track and aft from there. He...

Re: Wet Decks

Thanks to all for the ideas. I spoke with the surveyor some more tonight and he will get the report to me next week. Once I have it in hand I will discuss with the owner the results and see if we...

Re: Wet Decks

Thanks, I should get the report soon. The surveyor told me that all of the bulkheads are in good shape and that the chainplates attach to the hull further down below which he reported was all...

Re: Wet Decks

You would drop your offer 15% after the survey if he didn't find any major issues? The surveyors value was 15% under what I already negotiated off of the asking price before the survey.

Re: Wet Decks

Not just because we paid for the survey, it's part of the reason but not all. We really like the boat and the preliminary from the surveyor (I don't have the full report yet) sounds like this is the...

I appreciate the idea that there are lots of other boats out there but:
We really like this boat and have already paid for the survey. If we can figure out what it will cost to have someone fix...

Wet Decks

Hello All,

We just had a 1975 C&C 38 surveyed today that we want to buy. I have not seen the report yet but spoke to the surveyor and he told me that he found a couple areas in the deck that were...

Catalina 30 Clutch Cable

Hey All,

I have a 1986 C30 with a Universal M25 with Hurth transmission and Edson wheel with separte engine controls. The shifter has always been sloppy and difficult to shift into forward. I...

Re: ST40 Wind problem

Well, checking the connections is probably out. I don't want to have to pull the mast just for that.
Anyone know of anything else I could try? (Even if its a hail mary)...

Re: ST40 Wind problem

It is stand alone. We have the ST40 speed/depth but as far as I can see they are not hooked together in any way.

ST40 Wind problem

Hi All,

Since I have had my mast back up this year I am getting a 0.0 readout all the time on my ST40 wind instrument, even when the anemometer is spinning away up there. Accoring to the manual...

Re: Cleaning Teak

Did you try TSP? The black is probably from water not the oil and I don't think you want (or need) to get the oil out before varnish. Teak has natural oils in it that the varnish will seal in. There...

Re: Cracked Cockpit Sole

The cracking is on the side where the sole curves up. The plan is to put the teak over the non-skid and then fill the whole border that is around the non-skid with chopped glass and epoxy then gel...

Re: Cracked Cockpit Sole

When I say flexing in the sole I just mean the normal amount you get since there is nothing under it to support it. I had a guy look at it today who used to work for Tartan. He thinks that overall...

Re: Woody Wax

Thanks for that, is there anything you have found that works better? Is it better than nothing? We are in Ashtabula and it can be a constant battle to keep the boat clean from the dust.

Re: Woody Wax

I think I'm gonna try it, Defender has it on sale right now. If it makes the coal dust a little easier to deal with it will be well worth it.

Woody Wax

Anyone ever use it? We have a bit of a problem with coal dust at our boat club and I was thinking of giving it a try. Just wondering if it really works as good as they claim.

Thanks

Joe

Re: Cracked Cockpit Sole

Agreed but I will still need to address the crack in the gelcoat. If I was going to put teak down could I get away with just filling the crack?

Re: Cracked Cockpit Sole

I saw that at the boat show this year but will it do anything for my fiberglass problem?
