Re: Daysailer as reasonable re-entry boat in Hudson River, single-handed or w company

My friends have an Oday Daysailer moored a bit further north than you and they say it is fine on the Hudson.

One person can sail it fine. Picking up the mooring alone would worry me a little if...

Re: Flat Calm

Beautiful boats. Likea bunch of supermodels. Even if they aren't doing anything, still fun to watch.

Re: Daysailer vs cat 22

My C22 can easily make 6 mph measured on my gps in a 8 -10 knot breeze while carrying 6 people. I'm happy with the performance. In my opinion it's a miserable task to rig and set up. But on the...

Re: Hello From Sicily Eolian Islands Here We Come

I'm very interested in this story and any pictures you can share. My grandparents immigrated from Millazzo in the early 20th centruy and I have a ton of relatives in Millazzo. I plan on getting back...

Re: Boat Sitting - Is it really an outrageous proposition?

I think this is a pipe dream unless you sweeten the deal. Most owners will not go for it. We actually were in verbal agreement a similar deal but not livaboard with an unused sailboat in our marina....

Re: Maintaining an outboard

I have the same engine and it's durable but a real PITA. Mine needs the carb taken off and rebuilt every month.

Re: Sailing around the world on a Catalina 22 sailboat

Depends - according to my wife - anything over 7 knots of wind or 1' high waves.

Re: Sailing around the world on a Catalina 22 sailboat

Again, if you read my comment - specifically to Rich as he says its designed for strictly inland use - I just pointed out what the manufacturer says about it since they did have a hand in designing...

Re: Sailing around the world on a Catalina 22 sailboat

Catalina would certainly disagree with you. They say it is " safer at sea and in all conditions than any boat in it's class " And the thousands of C22's still out there sailing decade after decade...

Uhh...yeah. Lower the keel all the way. And sit on the high side. :laugher

Re: Etiquette for boat sale

Even if you accepted their offer on the phone - there is a definitive time limit. If you hold the boat for everyone who offers you a lowball number there's no end to the insanity.

Over the phone...

Re: Etiquette for boat sale

Its a little unclear how you left it, if you actually said okay. Assuming you accepted their offer on the phone; I would be straight with them. In fact I would probably honor the deal to my own...

Re: Help me plan my cruise North!

I'm sort of averse to sailing into inlets for that reason. Making the turn in with 20 knots wind if you are constricted can be stress inducing so I will just motor in.

There was a pretty nice...

Re: Sudden inability to sail upwind

In really windy gusty conditions my Catalina sails upwind pretty well with just the main, no reef.

Re: Which weather/wind apps & sites are most accurate?

I agree . Surface maps can tell you about what the trend will be - 1, 2, 3 days out - and what to look for during the day. Although we all knew things would be trending better, it didn't tell us if...

Re: Which weather/wind apps & sites are most accurate?

Same thing here. Crazy gusts yesterday that I could see coming way off then the wind would veer and die. Downwind my GPS was showing 7 mph - for a Cat 22.. Sailflow showed a spiky gusty pattern up...
