Re: Crossing from Cuba to Columbia

Just something to keep in mind once you get there: it's Colombia (http://www.latintimes.com/how-spell-colombia-country-colombians-tired-columbia-misspelling-167439). :)

Re: Is it getting more crowded out there?

Admiralty Bay. It is 30s outside, for the high. Envy is not even the right word. Last time we visited Admiralty Bay was about 8 years ago. Bare boating. Place was jam packed. Had to hunt for a...

Re: 10 weeks to splash - will it ever get here?

I'm scheduled for mid March, hoping to be in by end of March. Still, either way you count it - pure torture, thankfully rum is plentifull ;)

Re: Inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard recommendations

I have been using Isle SUP (http://www.islesurfboards.com/1206-isle-inflatable-stand-up-paddle-board-1.aspx) for the last two years. No complaints so far.

Pros: very stable, pretty solid feel,...

Re: copper free bottom paint recommendations

I have used Interlux Pacifica Plus for the last few years. Fairly happy with the result. Went 2+ years. Last winter boat stayed in the water. During sailing season, the diver would come out twice a...

Re: Jib Sheets yet again

Novabraid XLE-EZ Feel (http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=54245&familyName=Novabraid+XLE-EZ+Feel) gets my vote for the jib sheets. You just can't beat the soft /...

Re: America's cup, BERMUDA??????????????

Sad, just plain sad.

Chris Caswell sums it up pretty well in the current edition of Sailing: It's nothing new that America's Cup shenanigans stack the deck...

Re: Sailing Toys! What should I put on my Christmas list?

All I want is a good sailing season with steady SE winds 10-15 kts, no hurricanes / storms, no heatwaves, in other words - perpetual sailing bliss. Yeah, I can live with that . . . :D

Re: Antifouling in the Caribbean

I switched from Micron 66 to Pacifica Plus a few years ago, primarily for environmental reasons. With regular bottom scrubs, the bottom stays barnacle free - for the most part. Boat is kept in...

Re: Opinions needed on Marine Air (Dometic)

Have been using it for the last 5 + years. No issues whatsoever. If available, try to get the sound shield - it cuts down on the noise significantly. Overall, I'm very satisfied with it.

Re: Sailing in Near Gale Conditions

Well done James.

I came down on Sunday hoping for the winds to calm down ... it didn't. Rappahannock was not looking pretty, it seemed like there was just a bunch of short, choppy waves running...

Re: Fall sailing! Brrr

Yes, definitely another beautiful weekend. Sailed up the Rappahannock river and then enjoyed "flying" downwind. Nice temps and the water is not too cold yet.

Hoping for one more weekend like...

Re: Exceeding Hull Speed in Flat Water: Fantastic Sailing in Ideal Conditions

I have to agree with James. This weekend was just plain perfect for sailing in the Rivah. Went out Sunday in Rappahannock and it was one of those beautiful days: nice steady wind, relatively flat...

Re: Defend Defender!

I do my research. I decide on the product I need. Defender usually has the lowest price (though not always) in which case I place the order. Simple transaction. If I need to return something., never...

Re: Bird nests in the boom

A piece of sponge works well for me. Easy to stuff it in, easy to get it out. Plus, it is cheap and easy to replace.

Re: Hypervent or Equivalent? - seeking condensation solution for under berths

Well, it is fairly easy - I just roll it up to access the storage below as the springs are connected to form a sheet of sorts. On the other hand, if I had to do it on a daily basis, I probably would...

Re: Hypervent or Equivalent? - seeking condensation solution for under berths

I have been using this Froli Sleep Systems by Nickle Atlantic, LLC (http://www.frolisleepsystems.com) and condensation has never been an issue. More comfortable rest comes as an extra bonus.

Re: Ocean baby rescue underway off Mexico

If one was to follow this analogy, then no one living in remote areas (say half of Alaska) should even have kids. If this happened on land, it would not even make the front page news. Facts and...

Re: How do you feel about catamarans?

Re: Camera recommendations

+1 for Panasonic TS3 (or newer models). Waterproof, shockproof, fairly slim and takes decent pictures. dpreview.com has a fairly detailed write-up. Had mine for 3+ years. No problems whatsoever.
