Re: Vancouver or Victoria

Good luck getting 6 or 7 knots out of a Noon Ocean around here except in winter - this is a notoriously light wind area.

Re: Dry or wet sand gel coat?

That's interesting - the furniture finisher who told me about French polishing was obviously talking about the other hand rubbed finish because she referred to rottenstone in a "bag" of cheesecloth

Re: Valiant 32 problem with Fire Retardant in resin.

It was Uniflite and it was (IIRC) only for a couple or so years of their production.

As I recall, Bob had a very high opinion of the Texas builder. I thought it was a bit weird that a builder of...

Re: Steel vs Fiberglass

Rail down at 33 degrees but an AVS of 180 degrees?

Who produced those curves?

Re: Interior paint for wall panels

I use "Bath & Kitchen" semi-gloss acrylic paint inside my boats and have never had a failure. It is very scrubbable, contains mildewcides and is cheap.

Remember, prep is everything when it comes...

Re: Can anyone Idntfy my boat

The S-34 was designed by Vladimir Plavsic (of Kanata fame). The first one, Speirhead, was built for the world 3/4 Ton's when they were held in Victoria - '78 IIRC.

Re: Can anyone Idntfy my boat

O/K I found an old book with the details on it - the name was changed to North-West 650. Designed in 1973 by John Brandlmayr which makes it just about his best looking boat ever. :wink

Built by...

Re: Good Small Boat for Older, Fatter Woman to learn on

The whole concept of car topping has been made obsolete by the move to smaller cars. When the typical family had a 19' long station wagon, putting a 14' boat on top was a reasonable proposition.

Re: Are NADA Values accurate ?

I'd say the only guide that has any chance of reliability is Soldboats.com which is available only to Brokers.

People even question its validity saying that selling brokers put in phony info.

Re: Keel repair - PICS

You don't need to. Some people think it protects things or even helps to hold it on if the glass goes up onto the hull.

I'm not one of them.

Glass can simply hide corrosion until it gets bad...

Re: Rotten Deck

But have you ever worked on a boat? Have you ever repaired a wet deck?

I have - pics attached. The small boat only has "after" pics I'm afraid but the 43' has before during & after pics.

It...

What material is the rest of those ST28's made of? Barient made winches in Aluminium, Stainless and Bronze, usually chromed.

Mostly it was only the drums that varied in material - the guts were...

Re: Winch Bases Needed

Depends what you mean by "bases".

As you can see from the replies there are differing interpretations of what it means.

Are you talking about a type of bracket or pad to bolt them to the deck...

Re: Rawson 30- A Blue Water Cruiser?

The Rawson has an SA/D of less than 13 - you don't want to do anything to reduce that any further.

Re: Synthetic Motor Oil for my Diesel?

If you have a separate oil pump from the engine driven one, using it to pressurize the galleys prior to startup will do vastly more than anything else to extend the life of your engine. Something...

Re: Synthetic Motor Oil for my Diesel?

Spin on filters work in any orientation - that's why I can't understand some of the manufacturers - my Perky had it at a 45 degree down angle - impossible to remove it without it draining all over...

Re: Tuning Standing Rigging after Mast Stepped

To my mind. the big benefit of a Loos is that you get the same tension on all the shrouds & stays.

Doing it by feel works, and has worked forever but it isn't good at getting them all the same -...
