Re: Clogged fuel filter woes - advice

Dave, thankfully there is a simple solution for this- clean your tank and fill it with fresh diesel. If there's an inspection port on the tank (and there should be) it's a simple matter of opening it...

Re: Refrigeration questions

Hello Greg and Jill! I'm just wondering which Engel unit you installed. I'm about to replace my fridge and I'm probably going to buy an Engel drop-in unit. Thanks in advance.

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

Except that as a cruiser you spend so little time at sea and soooo much time on the hook with a drink in hand and friends in the cockpit...

BTW, I'm not knocking Westsails. I think they're nice...

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

Just a quick thought on some double-ender cockpits. On your boat, you'll spend most of your time in the cockpit, especially in warm climates. A small cockpit will be uncomfortable and crowded when...

Re: Pictures: Those perfect moments

Enjoying a weekend of sailing along the wild coast of S„o Paulo... and it's winter here! I'm rowing back to the boat after a hike on Ilha Anchieta, Ubatuba. A perfect moment ...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

Those very unique sailing vessels in the second photo should help narrow it down!

Re: World Cup and courtesy flags

+1 on the World Cup flags! Brazil is swimming in them. I just bought a dozen Brazilian flags to store on board at about 70 cents US each. They should last me a few years...

Re: Diesel or water

If I recall correctly, you want to head to Patagonia and the Chilean canals. You would be better off with the extra diesel there.

Re: 1982 Seafarer 37' (S37) left to me...needs TLC...fix or sell?

Looks pretty good in the photos to me. Why not clean it up and do just the necessary repairs (if there are any) and sail it for a while. You just might find that you like sailing and have a nice boat...

Re: A quick inverter question

Peter, I have a 2000w inverter installed in the engine compartment, but it's overkill for small charging needs like a mobile phone or running a laptop.

Re: A quick inverter question

Ouch, Mainesail ... I just ordered it and paid online! To be honest, I so infrequently use my laptop on board (and for a short duration when I do) that I might just give the little inverter a try. I...

Re: A quick inverter question

Brew, I just ordered a 150w cigarette lighter inverter (about 25 dollars). Thanks for the idea. Is 150w going to be powerful enough to run my laptop though??

Re: A quick inverter question

Thanks for the tip Hellosailor. In the end my 2000w inverter isn't defective and seems to be working fine.
I have a 12v cigarette lighter power socket at the nav station and I'm going to see if I...

Re: Sailing off to live on a deserted island

Why does it have to be a desert island? I lived for three wonderful years on an island in Brazil and enjoyed the best of both worlds: isolated beaches and coves only accessible by boat, nice...

Re: Yacht capsizes on launch

Right on, Christian! Bill Murray in Wes Anderson's "The Life Aquatic" is simply brilliant. The soundtrack is also one of my favourites- Seu Jorge interpreting classic David Bowie songs.

Re: Olympians to sail in poo

Rbrasi, what's your event? Are you coming as an athlete or a spectator?

I think for the most part the games will be a great success, in spite of the constant negative media (both here and abroad)....

Re: Olympians to sail in poo

I'm not sure pollution in Guanabara bay will be the biggest problem for the sailing events. I think it'll be lack of wind. I think they should move the sailing events to Buzios, about an hour north...

Re: Will epoxy stick to PVC pipe?

Just to clarify things. The oars are made of wood. I put a sleeve of split PVC pipe (about 10cm long) over the oar where it passes through the oar lock. I glued it with PVC glue and it seems to be...

Re: Dinghy Restore

Is it solid fiberglass or epoxy-ply? What are the defects you need to fix, or is it just a question of spiffing it up?
