Re: New Mutiny on the Bounty movie?

Bligh was actually a pretty interesting guy, he was actually more lenient than many of his contemporaries not the tyrant he's been made out in the movies. He was an early proponent of better food and...

Re: First Boat opinions?

Thomas,
For a first boat resale and condition are very important. As you get more experience your idea of the perfect boat may change. If it does a popular boat in good condition will be easier to...

Good Sail Loft, NJ or Annapolis

I used Moorehouse in South Jersey for years. Skip retired and sold the business. I haven't heard great things about the new owners.

So I'm looking for recommendations for a good sail loft.

Re: Accidently Aged Rum...

Toss it. It's not worth getting sick over the cost of a bottle of rum. I'm surprised the tupperware survived that long with alcohol inside.

Re: The Lady J For Sale

I think so.

I hadn't thought about that. A restoration like that really is an emotional investment and I'm sure they worked closely with him. Damn.

Re: The Lady J For Sale

Yeah, when I see these old wood boats my first thought is always "wow gorgeous", my second is "no way I want to maintain it".

Yep, he was a scumbag, but he was a scumbag who did meticulous...

I can't believe a week ago I was munching down lobster at the Key West seafood festival. Now I'm in Jersey looking at all this white crap

If work cooperates this will be our last winter...

Re: In praise of production boats!

Minne, I think you just wrote the design brief for 90% of the production boats out there -- and also summed up how most sailors use their boats.

Re: Is it safe to sleep overnight at the marina?

I am closer with my marina neighbors than the neighbors around my home. At home we are all living busy lives, rushing off to work, hauling kids around. At the marina it's leisure time. Life is a...

Re: Organizing tools idea

I got a couple of canvas riggers bags from Harbor Freight for $10 (http://www.harborfreight.com/canvas-riggers-bag-38124.html) apiece. They're soft sided and because they're narrow they're about the...

Re: And they just get uglier and uglier

At 130+ feet and $24 million I don't think these boats even qualify as superyachts anymore do they?

Re: And they just get uglier and uglier

A boat only has to appeal to one person -- the one writing the check.

Honestly the builder could care less what the folks here think. We're not the audience for these boats.

Someone thinks...

Re: And we wonder why boats sink . . .

It's pretty common for yard guys to get trashed on sailing sites (sometimes justifiably so).

But imagine what these guys must see day to day working on boats...

Re: A big Oyster abandoned off Spain

The larger questions that are still out there are how far can manufacturers go to reduce the amount of resin in laminate schedules? Are some manufacturers going to far? Will this result in failures...

Re: Lock it up when sailors come around???

The only thing I've ever had go missing was a set of winch covers.

So far the marinas I've been in have been very safe -- but then I wouldn't take a slip in an area I considered dicey...
