Re: Guitars and Salt Air OnBoard

There's absolutely nothing about the environment on a boat that should threaten a wooden guitar. The issues with wood are not the "salt" air. What could cause problems would be rapid changes in...

Re: Cokina Sheet with Magma grill

Some people shouldn't be allowed to play with gas grills, apparently. Especially if the thought of reading and following printed directions sends them into paranoid poisoning panics.

Re: 2 sets of oarlocks on a Porta bote?

that was my impression after a visiting cruiser here let me assemble and then row his 10 footer this week. We've got plenty of room for any of their models, and the seats etc. Our boat has...

Re: Paper charts are no longer REQUIRED

Lets throw them all in the bottom of a dinghy in a rain storm and see which ones we end up using for navigation.

Re: 2 sets of oarlocks on a Porta bote?

You just want to wind me up, ha ha. Nice try. This is hilarious to watch people with apparent reading disabilities try to derail a thread. To those with information on the oarlocks, thank you. ...

Re: Cokina Sheet with Magma grill

I'm laughing too, and I'm one of the old men you're referring to.

Didn't start out that way, though. I just wanted to point out a product that was first brought to our attention by the Women Who...

Re: Damned I hate winter!

Wow, What are the chances we'd run across each other on a sailing forum 50 years later. John and Louise were family friends. John worked with my father on land seismic crews. I knew them from my...

Re: Paper charts are no longer REQUIRED

Same here. If you draw more than about 4 ft and just go cruising around the TCI without some idea of where the navigable channels are, you'll have a short trip. And there are no maintained...

Re: Cokina Sheet with Magma grill

I've got one of these little heat gun things, and last night I checked the cooking sheet. If I kept the Magma lid closed and the flame on high it got up to over 500 deg. The brats were great.

Re: Damned I hate winter!

That wasn't a hotel run by John and Louise Baker, was it? He also owned the Magic Wash Laundromats in Palestine. I lived there for a while around the early 60's. not sure the exact years. Moved...

Re: Damned I hate winter!

How bout "All hat and no cattle"? "don't that just beat all?" "Big Ol'" this, or "little bitty" that.....
I grew up in the midst of all that, raised by a pack of wild east Texans.

And I...

Re: Paper charts are no longer REQUIRED

But the US government would LIKE to be in complete charge of everything you use to control your boat. If they can get everyone to rely upon GPS and electronic navigation, they can turn it off.

Re: Paper charts are no longer REQUIRED

You can use Amerigo Vespucci's charts for navigation if you want to. Having learned the hard way what a lightning strike can do to all the electronics on board, I'll always have backup paper charts...

Re: Cokina Sheet with Magma grill

MY problem? I don't think I'm the one with a problem here. I'm the one who is happy with this product.

One of the reasons I don't hang out over at Cruisers Forum so much any more is because I...

Re: 2 sets of oarlocks on a Porta bote?

Re: Cokina Sheet with Magma grill

It's going to be a real blow, but I guess the rest of us dummies will just have to soldier on without you, then.

Re: Cokina Sheet with Magma grill

Ah, well, in your case, it probably makes sense to not even dock the boat in marinas or even tie up in anchorages where someone upwind of you might be using one of these. In case an inert molecule...

Re: Cokina Sheet with Magma grill

I've got one of those temp measuring sensors on board. I'll check the temperature of the sheet the next time I cook on it. Just for grins and giggles.

Re: DIY - discussion on building a DIY hookah diving compressor

Excuse me, junior, but I was earning a living under the ocean while you were still in diapers. The Brownies is functional, proven, and they've sold a hell of a lot more of them than you have. ...

Re: Damned I hate winter!

I want to thank you guys for reminding me why we left the NE USA and how much we love living barefooted in t-shirts and shorts. Sometimes it's nice to remember the upside of tropical life. Lord...

Re: DIY - discussion on building a DIY hookah diving compressor

I've been reading this thread with some amazement in places. Astonishing how ignorant some people can choose to be. What's that old line about none is so blind as he who will not see?

Building...

Re: Cokina Sheet with Magma grill

So far I've cooked cheeseburgers, brats, and steaks on it on the small propane Magma. I'm more of a fan than ever. We just found another benefit.

Week before last we had a rat aboard. No, not...
