Re: Downwind Sailing

Simply put, it sounds like you were over-powered with too much sail up. The mainsail wants to drive you upwind and you have apply alot of helm ( rudder) to keep your heading downwind. Reefing...

Re: Just set sail

Where in NJ? Barnegat Bay? It's very unlikely that your O'day will tip over, in any typical weather that you'd sail in. Give it time and you will become confident in that fact. You may even...

Re: New York to Cape May ok for beginners?

To Sail between the Barrier islands, You'd want to enter Manasquan inlet transit the point pleasant canal and probably exit via Barnegat. You could do it with your draft but I wouldn't stray too...

Re: New York to Cape May ok for beginners?

Re: Help me plan my cruise North!

AC will be a long Day but I think that's a good call. It will give you a shorter sail the next day to Cape May and allow you to spend more time in a great beach town.

Re: Help me plan my cruise North!

Chef, IF the Vineyard is going to remain your main objective, ( which seems to be the case ) IF the weather cooperates and IF the crew? is up for it ? you could try to bite the bullet and sail...

Re: Help me plan my cruise North!

You'll probably want to make a reservation in Cape May if you want a slip for the night.
I believe Utsche's marina has the best price @ 2.00/ft. South Jersey Marina is a dollar more ($2.95) But...

Total SAR missions are reported and...
