Re: old yanmar 12HP water pump additional inlet and outlet lines

that looks like a 70's y series engine. They had an optional bilge pump which piggy backed off the raw water pump. I have a ysm 12. there are several good manuals on line, for free. Drop me a pm and...

Re: Diesel engine

check dieselenginetrader.com. They often have overhauled engines for sale. That being said, the beta engine line is usually competitivly priced, and has a 2 year warranty, or did when I was looking....

Re: Gauges for Yanmar YSB-8?

The sending units from later model Yanmars will fit the YSM. It is a common upgrade. Check with Mack Boring or Torrensen or Hoye Tractor.
I've seen kits from Hoye Tractor parts....

Re: Repowering with an electric engine?

There has been a lot of valuable information on here. I looked into this a few years back, and quick and dirty, if you don't want to give up "range" you need a generator roughly the same size, HP...

Re: Sailing The Point Pleasant Canal

Dave, at all aboard (NJ boat hauler.com) is a great guy and does a great job. He moved my boat in 2010. If you decide to go that way, he's the man.

Re: are these blisters

You are wise to seek advice. I wish the big problems on my boat were this simple! With modern products, it is easy to forget that sand, prime , paint is routine maintenance. As I learned the hard...

Re: Is a WW Potter 15 Good To Sail NYC Area?

Tripl,
Where in the NYC area are you? As mentioned, traffic is a bigger challange that currents. A 15' boat with a small outboard may not be the best thing to dodge super tankers in. That being...

Re: buying used 1976 or 77 Mariner 40 or 44

There are a few boats manfactured under the name Mariner. Do a google search for Mariner owners group. There are two, one for the asian Mariners, one for the New Hampshire Mariners. I'm thinking you...

Re: are these blisters

Agree with with both opinions. Still, a few seconds with a marlin spike or reasonably sharp nail will give you a more definite answer. Wear eye protection, just in case.

Re: "The 2 happiest days of a boatowners life are..."

Not to say that buying and selling boats aren't happy and exciting days, but the happiest? When folks ask why you sail, do you tell them about the day you bought the boat? For me, it was the weekend...

Re: Ice in my bilge

A few winters back, after a huge snow storm, the cockpit filled with snow, the water in the scuppers froze, which cracked the scupper hoses, which allowed the cockpit full of snow to freeze AFTER it...

Sounds like a man who knows what he is talking about.
As Yogi said
In theory, theory and practice are the same thing.
In practice, they aren't.

Re: 2 stroke inboard

Your best bet would be one of the old OMC sail drive units. It basically is a 30 HP outboard turned into a 15 hp sail drive. There was a company adapting Honda outboard engines to sail drives a short...

Do a google search on Ranger 23 hull. There is a thread on sailboat owners that describes something similar. Also check the R23 group on Yahoo. I have a feeling this is not unique to your...

Re: Ranger 23 Keel Wobble Advice

Mark,
I've seen one other boat that sounds like what you are describing. Is the hull cored? I am just south of you, Sandy Hook, and second Caleb, I can take a look, if you like. If its a cored hull,...

Re: Filling a cored deck

I would not use Bondo. The core is for strength. I doubt the resin alone would be as strong as the resin over plywood. It will certainly be heavier, and perhaps too brittle. Plus using the plywood...
