Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

We were one of those out Friday.

Our daughter and her hubby came up from NC. We went from our slip in Rock Hall to anchoring in St Michaels. Great weather. We were able to sail the whole way.

Re: Shoal Draft version of a Beneteau Oceans 45?

Sagacity.

There is a 7' keel as well, but I'd say most (all) on the Chesapeake are shoal. We bought ours at Winter's Sailing Center. i beleive that's all they order.

Nice sailing day yesterday!...

Re: slip vs. mooring

We were on a mooring for 5 years and more recently at a slip. We loved the privacy of the mooring, the ease of departing and return and of course, the lower cost.

However, the convenience,...

Re: Seldon In-mast furler

First year for the 45, had the 41 for the two previous seasons with the same system.

It's easy to reef, just head up enough to take off some of the load and use the winch.

Yep, without much...

Re: Seldon In-mast furler

We have an Oceanis 45 and either head into the wind with the engine on or if I want to leave the jib out, close reach and ease the main. We always use the winch. Never the electric.

The bimini has...

Re: wall sized TV, on a sailboat

I have a 46"on my 45'. And it's true, I'm not a great sailor. LIS, to the Chesapeake is as far as I go.

But it hasn't got anything to do with the tv.:laugher

Anyway, we sail every weekend from...

Re: Kent Narrows Dredging-Summer 2014

We bumped a bit today in channel with a 5'9" keel and .85 feet over low tide. No problem, just a little disconcerting.

Re: Main ELCI/GFCI tripping

I was at the same marina with a '14 OC 45 Thursday and mine tripped too. Heard there was shore power issues on the dock, including reversed polarity.

I reset and no problems since, including a...

Re: What did you learn to sail on?

I bought a new Catalina 380 in 2001 and learned to sail on it with my wife, who also had never sailed before.

Re: 2014 Catalina 445 vs 1998 Oyster 45

We are coastal cruisers. Frankly, more weekend and vacation sailors. We are on the boat & sailing every weekend, except one, from the end of March to mid November.

But we won't ever...

Re: Suggestions for coastal cruiser

Not trying to make things more difficult, but including one electric winch and a bow thruster makes a coastal cruiser 47 foot or less pretty easy to single-hand. Some sweet boats in the 40-42 ft...

Re: Price of boats... Wow!!!

We will be commissioning our fourth new boat since 2001. 5th since 1999 if I include a powerboat.

2 were sold because of non-sailing circumstances and the latest purchase will likely be a...

Re: Boat Cover

There is a well respected local company close to the yard I've dealt with before for dodgers & covers and he's also doing my cushions and enclosure this time. He can make and install before the bad...

Boat Cover

I know there have been boat cover discussions before, because I checked. I'd still value opinions....

Should I get a custom cockpit cover (snaps in where the dodger goes), a full cover or wait a...

Re: 2013 Sailing Season

We sailed Sunday out of Rock Hall. Winds started out around 8 knots and after a bit rose quickly to the mid 20's. We reefed and had a blast in gusts to 30 knots true.

We were only sailing for a...

Re: Annapolis Sailboat Show Observations & Notes

We sail the Chesapeake and a big trip is to the LIS. We look at boats we could conceivably afford that are designed for our purpose. We stay off the Gozzards, Oysters et al.

I actually am...

I apologize for the late notice and hope to make next year!

No advice, but in my short time on the Chesapeake, I've never seen it so low here in Rock Hall. We're no longer aground. I'm typing this rocking gently in our slip, while everyone else aboard is...

Re: What year does Beneteau start using a bridge?

I ordered mine last year after seeing hull number one on the hard. Quite nervous until I saw a very positive review in Practical Sailor. This is my first boat without a traveler. Don't miss it.

Re: Singlehanding a 41' Hunter DS?

Well, I have one. In fact, sitting in the cockpit now. Spent the day sailing. Nope, doesn't pound. Wife was at the helm, 50 degrees off the wind, 16 knots true. She took her hands off the helm,...

Re: Singlehanding a 41' Hunter DS?

I agree.

First boat was a 38, second a 47, third a 41. All new.

The selling yard will give you an orientation. Hire a delivery Captain to help/ teach you on the trip to your marina,

Get a...
