Re: Take Your Shoes Off in the Cabin

So far it looks like we have a split decision on the question; although one thing is coming through loud and clear. In the tropics, which is where I do most of my sailing, take 'em off.

Again,...

Re: Take Your Shoes Off in the Cabin

I'm not disputing whether or not the owner can make rules. I just never heard of that one (remove shoes) and was wondering how prevalent it is.

Take Your Shoes Off in the Cabin

I recently spent a couple of weeks in the Windward Islands on a really nice Odyssey 49. I was there to help the owner who was a very nice gentleman. It was an interesting experience and maybe a...

Fascinating information. I take it things are a little slow where you are. : )

Re: Exp. Crew or Capt. Wanted for W. Palm to Rhode Isl

I've done that delivery a couple of times; although a little short of RI. If you do the delivery without stopping, seven or eight days is not unrealistic. Don't forget. You have the Gulf Stream...

Re: Sailing USVI/BVI from CYOA Yacht Charters

I chartered from CYOA 25 years ago and they were great then. I've tried a few times in recent years but could never get the right boat for a large group. Rather than being disappointed I'm...

Re: New listing for Fuji 35

Thank you, Tempest. I see where I made my error. I searched for a "Fuji 35." I should have just searched for a "Fuji."

Re: Moving to Cocoa Beach and...

I used to sail a Hunter 27 in the area of Merritt Island. The Hunter drew about 3 1/2 feet, so I had pretty good range in the Indian River. I spent two years sailing there and always had fun. It...

Re: New listing for Fuji 35

I am curious about the boat and looked it up on Yachtword.com. They show only two Fuji 35's listed. One is in San Diego and the other is in East Boston. Is the latter the boat you are writing...

Re: Making experienced sailors/boat owners get an ASA 104 to charter

Do I to understand this correctly? Even someone with US Merchant Marine masters ticket would not qualify to charter unless they acquired an ASA certification?

Re: Endeavour 37

I've been trying to buy an Endeavour 37 for some time. Owners say they want to sell, but then go away when you start asking questions. It's really strange. But that's not what you are asking...

Re: And you thought you had a bad day...

Okay, it was tough luck for the boat owners who got their boats smashed, but did anyone see the OP's second video? Wow! I would be changing my shorts for sure if I was in the middle of one of those...

Re: Dominica

Those are some great pictures. I'm curious, though. Why the barb wire topped gate at the waterfall? They afraid someone will steal the water? :-)

Re: USCG Boarding Procedures

I got stopped once while delivering a boat from the Moorings. We were in the Old Bahama channel off the coast of Cuba (about 20 years ago). The owner, two of his friends, and I were onboard. I saw...

Re: Man running in inflatable bubble rescued off coast of Florida

Let's put all speculation to rest about intent, level of preparation, sanity, etc. and call a spade a spade. The person in question is an idiot who shouldn't be allowed in water deeper than what...

Re: When Do You Get Off?

First, let me confess that I haven't read all the previous posts, so if this veers off topic, sorry.

Having done deliveries for a living many years ago, two incidents come to mind. The first was...

Re: Funding retirement boat

I have been in Florida for 41 years and I would not characterize the summers as "no picnic." Yes, it is hot - high 80's to low 90's every day. It rains but usually not long and it cools things...

Re: Funding retirement boat

Or you could move to Florida. I own a house on a small lake in a rural area and my taxes are $1,000 per year. The house is now 10 years old and has three bedrooms (such a deal). It was worth about...

Re: Crew Wanted Early Nov.

You have three posts as of my post and two of them that I have seen are encouraging people to use a specific crew site. Shilling for the web site are we? I believe that is against forum rules.

Re: Info on Bristol 40 Custom Center Cockpit

Excellent question. When I first contacted the buyer via email, that is exactly what I asked. He never responded to my email, so then I called but did not ask again. He made a point of telling me...

Re: Info on Bristol 40 Custom Center Cockpit

Well, I looked at the Bristol 40 today, and it has a Bristol hull and that's it. The guy selling it thought the previous owner removed the Bristol deck and made his own, but I find that unlikely. ...

Re: Info on Bristol 40 Custom Center Cockpit

Yes, I noticed those side decks in the picture. Seems dangerous if you are at sea, you would almost have to move forward on the cabin with little or nothing to hold onto. I can't imagine she would...

Re: Info on Bristol 40 Custom Center Cockpit

According to the Bristol owners' site (Bristol Owners' Association Home Page (http://www.bristolowners.org)) The 41.1 was in production starting in 1986. The seller of the boat says the boat was...
