Re: Engine Compartment Fire Extinguisher

The auto system is probably Halatron, the replacement for the old Halon extinguishers. If you have a automatic system you should have an auto kill system as the running engine will suck Halatron into...

Re: How to charge a SEALED lead acid battery?

Check out the Battery Tender products the documentation indicates that the pannel can not be submerged but nothing about keeping it out of the elements.

Re: Preventing chafe of rode on bow cleat...

Rather than thread the loop through the center of the cleat just drop it over the two horns of the cleat then close the loop by lashing a small line to prevent the loop from popping of when slack....

Re: Preventing chafe of rode on bow cleat...

A picture from a little more distance would provide a better idea of the direction of the loads on the cleat. Is that a mooring pennant attached to the cleat using an eye at the end of the pennant?...

Re: What is the life span of a chart plotter???

When did Garmin come out with the GPS 12? 20 years back? That was my first GPS and bought five others, GPSmap 12, GPSmap 76, GPSmap 478, GPSmap 3006 and an Oregon 200c. Sold the GPSmap 76 a 2-3 years...

Re: How frequently Do You Change Your Raw Water Impeller?

Agree 100%. Your can't really inspect it properly without pulling it out of the pump. Makes no sense t o me to risk the damage of overheating the engine for the cost of an impeler once a year.

Re: Wife says icebox is disgusting

What has been tried to clean it? I'd try a variety of different cleaners before painting or anything drastic. Good old cleanser, Clorox cleaner, Soft Scrub, trisodium phosphate, the mild acid that's...

Re: Westerbeke 40, ideal consumption efficienty

On a windless day with glass for water and no current chart you boat speed (I'd use both the knot meter and GPS) at 50 or 100 RPM increments. At the point where your speed starts to...

Re: ICE box Drain plumbing

Do you have a shower and where does it drain? There is often a separate sump for showers on boats to keep the grey water out of the bilge. the ice box on my Cape Dory MS300 drains to the shower sump...

Re: Tohatsu 25 Air intake issue.

Well I was not able to figure it out myself. Took it the boat / engine to the local outboard shop. Turned out to be an electrical wire issue that only acted up when the engine cover was on....

Re: Maintaining an outboard

Agree with getting the gas in small quantities. Since I started using the internal tank and ValvTech gas I have had no problems with my 4hp Mercury.

Tohatsu 25 Air intake issue.

The Tohatsu 25 will idle and run perfectly with the engine cover off but as soon as I put the cover on it begins to sputter. The air intake on the cover is not blocked in any way but for some reason...

Re: How often to change impeller?

It constantly amazes me that such a critical engine system is soooo dependent on a little rubber part that is prone to unexpected failure. I always thought that there should be a water pump...

Re: SmartGuage Review

Makes sense as the blower always runs for a bit after it is turned off. I'll see if I can find a wire diagram for the thermostat to see if it could be wired to the relay?

Re: SmartGuage Review

Main Sail

Both the Link 10 and SmartGuage can be used to operate a relay, correct? If that is correct would the SmartGuage be a better option than the Link 10 to turn off an Espar heater?
