Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

I once discussed this very issue with one of my buddies at GM. She was intrigued how the sailing community dealt with a 'convertible' as is really what the Cal '27 pop top is. After she modeled...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Is your pop-top still affixed to your mast? There should be a piece of linking hardware that affixes the pop-top directly to the mast.

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Well, that's a great question. Lots of school of thought as I learned when I first started my inspections. Lots of folks advocate that sealant will seal in moister. Others state sealing should be...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Nope ~ Not one issue other than having to clean up the joint between the fiberglass and lead. I inspect this yearly during haul-out. I generally sand the joint down and Goop it up as needed. But,...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

I posted a pick of my keel which might help. That joint has been problematic on most boats i've seen. You'll need to obviously clean this up and inspect how its holding up.

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Jack ~ I might have some measurements on my sail bags from the last 'reconditioning' they had. Can't really promise anything here, but I will look next time someone dares me to go into my...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

I appreciate the thought and think you have a point. However, I also believe market niche and economics play a large role in why we don't see more of these cats meow! :) Thanks for sharing your...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Ask and you shall receive; I have uploaded two images for the boom tack for the main sail. I think this is what you need. Look at my albums under Misc Illustrations.

The main sheet obviously...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

LOL I'm not racing. So, we may come to an mid point. I don't need to 2 spinnakers for a fraction of a knots sake.. My willy is bigger than that. So, we'll figure it out. :)

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

I'm not sure what boats are and are not set up for flying spinnakers, however, I know ours are. :). Although, you need a spinnaker pole and 5 dedicated lines to fly one! Obviously a spinnaker sheet...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

I have two spinnakers. 1.5 OZ asymmetric and a .75 OZ symmetric. Do some research and see what works best for your geographic sailing. I'll see which one I should keep and you can have the other....

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Spinnaker sails are easily identifiable: light, HUGE, and very colorful.

Yes, I bought my boat with more than one spinnaker sails and I'll give you one. You pay for the shipping and its yours. ...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

NOTE: The innerstay will NOT complicate the tacking of the normal headsail 'foresail' as the innerstay has its own INDEPENDENT tack points separate of the forestay. This is built in by the...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

I understand cutter rigs are designed to fly both sails simultaneously in order to maintain the 'PURE' sport of a cutter rig. However, an innerstay serves the same options in my opinion save that of...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Well, recommendations are well intentioned. However, if I were you, I'd look for a genoa of about 140. Our boat are gallant ladies with wide hips and a sturdy infrastructure. They're blue water...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Jack ~ Have you located the upper sailstay tack on your mast? This will be key.. Seems I remember you stating you identified the lower track on the bow. This will be KEY for the cutter option. ...

Re: looking for past or present owners of 1970 through 73 cal 27s

Well, what needs to be considered here is the forestay canvas can be 100+ (genoa) obviously. The staysail canvas can be =>100% (jib) in order to capitalize a self tacking benefit which would be...

Completely changes the 'Awesomeness' of our rides into 'Super Awesomeness"! Heck yeah! Yets adds to how amazing this boat is. I'm uber psyched and love my StarShip Del Rocio even more! :)

To add my un solicited 2 cents, Vulcan logic must prevail, Captain Jack has a point. Cristian has made many valid points here. HOWEVER, although larger engines can be more efficient, there is an...
