I agree that income has not kept pace with living costs, but come on, how cheap does it...

Re: Where are the younger people?

You got it, bub.

In 'Murica, we gots two kinds of young people; the kind that Gary described (in the fast lane), or the "risk averse". The kind that thinks that an Xbox360 is the gateway to...

1972 is prior to when hull id's were required. Well, they were implemented at the end of 72. You probably don't have one.

Re: changing helm style

I feel like a wheel eliminates one of your senses, sort of like losing your hearing or sense of touch, but I fully understand that some boats are simply better sailed with a wheel than a tiller.

Re: changing helm style

A fellow Sailnett'er has an Edson wheel installed in her O'day 25. (She hates it)

I call it a disaster. Due to the transom-hung rudder, it required cutting holes where there really shouldn't be a...

Re: Hot stuffing box...

Ok, totally skipping the oddess of 12 strands of flax, and that these people are eschewing the new packing material, I think what you should do, is buy an IR thermometer from Harbor Frieght and get...

The seller is sketchy. Drop this boat like a hot rock. You damn sure DO get a survey when you're talking about spending that amount of money.

Re: Butane camp stove in cabin

I think you're going about it sensibly, and will be ok.
Just store the cans outside (but don't let them get rusty) and try to have some ventilation while you're cooking.

You could install a CO...

Three cheers for Chuckles

I got to meet Chuck today, and scope out his Irwin.

Chuck gave me some parts that will keep two Good Old Boats in fighting trim, and I just wanted to give him a public thanks.

Thanks Chuck! :)

Re: Rebuild head, or replace, and with what?

A friend of mine has that exact toilet, and he has had to rebuild his pump every two years. He actually keeps a spare, and just swaps them. I think the Groco toilet is terrible.

You can buy a...

Re: 2013 Sailing Season

Yesterday, "Tardis" and I sailed her newly purchased Pearson 30 from the head of the Magothy River, to her permanent slip in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

I was merely crew/engineer. She was skipper...
