Re: Genoa tracks

Strong - back. If the wind pipes up move the cars back and it flattens and depowers the headsail. Just as the outhaul does on the main.

Re: Interesting factoid learned recently

My dink is state registered for motor operation (my sailboat documented) and I have no name on her. We usually just call her "Hairball". I guess TT CATNAP would work.

Re: Your boat suggestions?

Agree with the Catalina 30 - or the 34. A Cal 2-27 would be excellent as well. A C&C 30 might be the perfect boat at your price point. Also keep an eye out for a Sabre 30.

We sail your...

Re: Open letter to yachtdesigners of the world

For what purpose and what body of water? Give me a blue-water passagemaker and it would be next to useless in the Finger Lakes - though we have Tayana 37s and Babas on the lake that are lovely but...

Re: installing a shower into a ericson 31.

Solar Showers are a great method. We have two and even with boats that have dedicated shower accomidations I still prefer the solar shower fed through the head hatch. Uses a LOT less water and...

Re: Too big for a sunfish?

Sunfish is a great little boat.

Before you bite on a bare hull price out the rudder, tiller, daggerboard, sail, sail rings, mast, booms, gooseneck. Then price out a second used Sunfish WITH all...

Re: Which one is right?

The average also figures in the difference between current speed at depth vs. at the surface.

Re: Pictures of your boat

As others have said: it's hard to get a good image of yourself under sail.

Re: Backwards Wheel Helm... duh... what?

It's an easy and direct system with little involvement below the cockpit. You can also sit on the quadrant house and steer facing forward.

Re: proof of paid sales tax

THE ADMIRAL and I bought a Pearson 27 that was documented (our first) from MA. I transferred the documentation but never registered with NY. (The Coast Guard even says another entity CANNOT issue a...

Re: Need answer to something I've always Wondered About

But if your check-valved tube leaks or otherwise takes in water how do you clear it?

You can do a minute underwater snorkling - more with practice. I find that sufficient for casual boat work,...

Re: Need answer to something I've always Wondered About

Even just a few feet below the surface your diaphragm can't expand your lungs against the water pressure. Sucking from a tube and exhaling elsewhere won't work very deep. Back to that three foot...

Re: Question on Fuel Filter Replacement

I agree with the 15-20 minutes. I didn't follow my own advice and konked out trying to negotiate between the lift bay and the mast raising area this past year. Embarassing. My Yanmar has a...

Re: newbie looking for dingy advice

We have a relatively old Zodiac C260 (1990 Cadet roll-up) that fits (barely) in the cockpit lazarette of our P31-2. I hang a Mariner 3.3Hp on a pushpit bracket. Our primary use is getting the dog...

Re: proof of paid sales tax

Same in NY. Documentation is great . . . but have the registration if the park police, state police or local sheriffs approach you.

Welcome! We had friends who years ago had an AMF Apollo. Nice little boat. Bruce Kirby knew/knows his stuff.

Re: Any 88' Pearson 31-2 Owners in the house?

Put your finger over the spout to help draw the prime. I added 2" of aluminum tube sleeved with a length of 3/8" silicone tubing to the spout so the spray stays in the sink.

Great feature to put...

A/C (& heat) in a P31-2
