Re: Production Boats and the Limits

We cruised and lived on our Catalina 400 for 2 years.

While the C400 does not have the storage space of a Valiant, Passport or Tayana, we felt it had plenty for 2 people. We carried a lot of tools...

Re: Production Boats and the Limits

Jon, my apologies.

My reading comprehension was obviously not good last night. I missed the key word "OPENING" port lights in the hull.

I agree with you - this seems to be a disaster waiting to...

Re: Production Boats and the Limits

So, Jon - what is different with the Morris ? Front cabin / V-berth seems similar.

Oh yeah - the Morris has a forward galley - good for sangers underway isn't it? Especially considering the lack...

Re: Production Boats and the Limits

No pilot berths on the Morris?
Forward galley?

Better not leave the ICW in this death trap.

Re: Pearons 28 passes Beneteau 46

So, it is OK for young Jimmy to Go-Pro and make fun of the lad in the Bene... but when someone makes fun of Jimmy out comes the threat of legal action?

Jim, cowboy up, dude.

Yes, with the exception that the members on the other forum used somewhat more "descriptive" language.... ;-)

Re: Pearons 28 passes Beneteau 46

James,

You seem to think that you have done something very special in catching a longer DWL vessel and passing him.

Sorry to break the news, Mate, it happens all the time.

Now, HTFU, go and...

Re: Production Boats and the Limits

Assuming that you are referring to me as J, I totally agree with you that some boats are more optimized for offshore work.

I just think that the arguments that you use;

Insecure galley
No...

Re: Production Boats and the Limits

Well,

I have been to a somewhat exotic locale, the Bahamas, and I can tell you that no one, and I mean no one headed to the cockpit of the Tayana 37's for sundowners. They all came to our big ass...

Re: Production Boats and the Limits

Outbound.

1. How does a secure galley have anything to do with whether the boat is a "production" or not? I have been on a lot of boats (including Outbound 44/46 and the 52), and a Valiant,...

Re: Pacific Seacraft 63' ketch nears completion

Bob,

Forgive my ignorance - but what is that "thing" on the transom?

Re: Production Boats and the Limits

I think that is a very broad statement, there are different models of Bene's. I am not sure how the galley in for example the 423 or the 473 is any less secure than that in your Outbound?

I used...

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

from memory the Alajuela only had 2 cockpit drains towards the front of the cockpit. It also seemed like the cockpit was larger than that of a Tayana 37.
Otherwise a pretty cool boat with fullest...

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

I do realize that you probably were not exactly using a stop watch (in F10) at the time, but roughly how long would you say it took for the cockpit to drain?

Maybe the Alajuela was the exception?...

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

Yes - it is simple physics.

An open transom has a larger sectional area than any scuppers.

I just wonder how many of the "small cockpit, quick drain" proponents have ever had their cockpit...

I am not so sure that small cockpits always drain quickly...

I once sat in the cockpit of an Alajuela 38 that was on the hard. The cockpit was full with rain water and melted snow. Someone had...

Yes, there a definitely fewer pointed shoe boxes, in fact there is fewer of everything.

As for Paolo's blog, I liked to have the pointed shoe boxes right here in a forum that I frequent.

Since...

Re: Is "sailing performance" all in our heads?

I do not think that cruising cats are that much faster than monos.

We sailed a 24 hr. passage on our 40' mono together with a 38' Lagoon cruising catamaran.

Winds where on or aft of the beam...

Re: How not to make a tricky harbor approach...

Nope.

Jon is right.

If you are motoring at 5 knots you are going 5 knots through water regardless of current. In the example above, you are doing 5 knots thru water with SOG of 10 knots.
