Re: Dolphins, sextants and some fabulous sailing!

Pretty boat, not bad video and decent backing track: nice.
Sloop rigged. Not a Lateen rig but with standard battens on the mainsail (not full battened), and a jib so whats not sloop about it?

Re: New around here

Any US Sailing (USS) or American Sailing Assocition (ASA) accredited 101 course ("Basic keelboat sailing") should give you a running start and should include both classroom instruction as well as...

Re: Looking for a good "last boat"

I believe that the Typhoons are better sailors than the Bayfield 25.

Re: Microburst or Tornado? El Nino 2016

I like to get 3 - 4 extra wraps of the sheets around my head sail when furled. Then I cleat the sheets off with some tension in the cockpit.
Been lucky so far but have also taken off all canvas for...

Re: Jon Eisberg's Passing today...

I'll join the choir in this eulogy.
I always hoped I'd get to meet him one day since he lived not far from me in NY city.
My best wishes to his family. Us internet "friends" will also miss him...

Re: Stern tube grease and propeller shaft

Thanks for the follow up post Julien. It is too often that threads like yours get no follow up by the original poster.

Re: Harken MK I furler. Should I use it? Too old? Furlers vs hank on ? Your thoughts?

I have never caught a mooring or lobster trap line with the hull of a Tartan 27 under sail. Under motor power I have managed to find a way to wind a line around the prop (dont ask me...

Firstly, congrats on your new to you T27-2.
Secondly, I with the choir here - try out the furler for a season.

I also agree with you that a smaller head sail might make sense for...

Re: What's new?

Hey dan,

Welcome back. Now that you mention it I notice that you have been away for a while.

Re: Needed gift ideas for the boating lady

Welcome to Sailnut JoCo.

I was going to suggest sailing lessons for her but it seems like you have that covered.

Sunfish are great fun to sail but can be a tad wet. To help make her Sunfish...

Re: Projected running costs

A lot may have to do with your location and what options are available to you.
If you are in an area like the Cheseapeake where there are private homes with unused dock space you can stumble into...

Re: Glow plugs

Most online "marine engine" parts places will rip you off blind for this kind of stuff. There is a vast conspiracy to separate unsuspecting boaters from their money out there in the marine business....

Re: Sailing once more!

A small boat is better than no boat at all, and a small boat is way easier to care for than a bigger boat and easier to use.
This is a good primer (pun intended) on using epoxy for those soft spots:...

Re: volvo mb10a gas inboard-Keep it?

A working used Atomic 4 engine can often be found for $1-2K.
Parts are readily available from Moyer Marine and are reasonably priced.
I have no idea if the mdb10a footprint will accomodate an A4;...

Re: Need Measurements for an Endeavour 37...

Nice to hear from you Sumner. Hope all is going well.

Binnacle frame may (or may not) be standard for all E 37's. Might not be a bad idea to have BigdogAndy go and measure for you.
IIRC, he...

Re: '78 Endeavour 32 questions

Re: North Haiti

Hey Wandersome,

So you finally got a boat back to north Haiti! Congrats.

Just a trifle not surprising that your boat is the only of its kind in the harbor. Keep a weather eye out ;-).

Re: Greetings from Harrison Twnsp, Michigan

Greetings lilfoot! Welcome to Sailnut.

$4K in my area (NY) should buy you a pristine Catalina 22' with a new engine, sails, trailer. $4K for a Catalina 25' also sounds fairly reasonable.
