Re: How not to go "camping" while cruising frugally

...as an addendum to my post above....I used to liveaboard back in the early 90's. before internet, and before cell-phones, and it got very lonely. I think the connection to the outside world makes a...

Re: How not to go "camping" while cruising frugally

I've been "camping" on my 27 ft. boat for almost three years now, and love it. I don't begrudge anyone for their comfortable lifestyle, but I would guess that about 80% of the people on this planet...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

As 50 knots of January wind blows across the marina in the middle of the night here in the Northern Hemisphere, this post kicks ass.

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I think the definition of "voyaging" is varied. I agree that living on the Puget Sound, anchoring out often, living on the cheap can be, and is, awesome. I live on the Columbia (at a marina now-while...

1.In Washington if you make less that $1273 a month you qualify for expanded Medicaid.

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I agree that $500 is an arbitrary number. But if $500 is the bare minimum (I personally think its lower than this) then $600 would be the lap of luxury right? Hell that's a 25% increase. Sailing...

People have been cruising without refrigeration since...well...before Magellan.

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I second the 'cheap table wine'. A case of TJs Cabernet is less than $30. If you start with a high quality $6.00 bottle and use the Two-Buck-Chuck as your 'second' bottle, you'll never know the...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I was watching a documentary online the other night (I forget which one) but I remember them saying that 70% of the people in The Americas earn less than $2 a day. Now of course the vast majority of...

Re: This is hope! (3 young adults fix P30 and head out to sea)

Well said. I think his point is that you don't need a brand new Jeanbleau-72b to go sailing. It appeals to the same romantic ideals we found as kids when we read Joshua Slocum or Huck Finn for the...

Re: This is hope! (3 young adults fix P30 and head out to sea)

Perhaps some people are way over thinking this. The guy took a camera along, shot some video, and turned it into a pretty entertaining movie. I think the point of the film is to get out there and do...

Your Yankee 24 would have been a much better choice even. Although up here in the PNW there are a never ending supply mid 70s SJ24s.

It sure is quite the story. He doesn't strike me as the type...
