Re: How do you stretch your season in the northeast

Lots of layers on the bed. Many layers.

Cook something in the oven with the door closed or partly closed.

Leaving the oven on with the over door wide open set off the CO detector once, so now...

Re: Mantus anchor raffle

Two thoughts about this:

1) I thought there were no "bottom conditions" in a fjord. Aren't they like 2,000 feet deep?

2) Coffee and waffles? I'm in!

Re: Manson Supreme

Our Manson Supreme holds really well. After installing it, I snapped our snubber line when setting the anchor. Granted it was an old line, but still.

Now I'm very careful when taking up the...

Re: 2002 Beneteau 50 Wiring Diagram

Yes, that was me. There isn't a detailed wiring diagram in there, unfortunately.

On our Beneteau 50, all the wires have number labels at each end. That helps a little.

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

What Dave and Hugo said. It was a lot of fun!

Dave and Donna are delightful (as are Joanne and Hugo).

Northport is a beautiful town too, perfect for the event.

Brad

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

Will the swells from the hurricane shut down the New Jersey inlets? I'd think that a hurricane going over Bermuda would make waves big enough to make you want to skip NJ altogether.

Re: Boat Explodes

And one minor thing... diesel smells better. I once looked at a great deal on a 30 footer. The inside smelled as if gasoline had sloshed onto everything onboard. Walked away from that boat.

But...

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

May bring the admiral tomorrow.

Skippers Pub in Northport, right? What time? (Later is a bit better. I'll be in the city, so will have some commuting to do.)

Brad

Looking forward to dinner in Southhold.

Good to be wherever the hurricane isn't going.

Didn't you complete a circumnavigation with your Beneteau 39?

Re: Moving up in size. Suggestions?

I'd start with the type of keel and rudder that I wanted.

More specifically, I'd look at Beneteaus. Our 505 is spacious and sails excellently. Of course, it's going to be more than $100K, but...

Re: Boat Explodes

Diesel doesn't normally burn unless compressed (or super hot, I'd bet). There was a Myth Busters episode where they couldn't ignite diesel with a blowtorch. Very educational.

With respect, that's not a good way to do it. Hooking up both batteries in parallel with give more than twice the range and the batteries will last longer. (It's the Peukert effect.) And the other...

Re: Pimp my dinghy!

Don't bother with any dinghy lights that require wires. LEDs run a log time off AA batteries - up to12 hours.

I got this for my 11'6" RIB with 20HP. It worked great until one of the kids...

Re: Electrical system

Ageed on the value of a charge controller. With a charge controller (and the bigger panel that it will keep from frying the battery) you could then use the boat more often.

Re: $1500 Catalina 27

Ask some people who are doing project boats if they would do it again. I think 90% of them would say "No way!"
