Re: Departure date seclected

You should regain your sanity and sell the boat immediately, then buy a piece of land and build a house on it.

Wait, did I say that out loud? What I meant to say was Fair Winds and Following...

Re: Sailboat interior seaworthy design

I never liked the Cape Horn on an Alberg, only for the fact that you lose the entire rear locker to house it's bits and pieces. Looks amazing and probably works amazing, but an entire locker being...

Well, here are some pics, hope they help and inspire your Alberg journey!

Bronze CP's, cut not drilled yet. Old ones in pic for perspective:

Re: Canvas Costs

Don't count out the old codgers? They are the only ones left who can still actually make stuff, the old codgers are my heros. Nothing leaves me more suspicious of a fabricator of any sort than one...

Re: Canvas Costs

That's a good thread over at SA, funny stuff.

The BCC with the Boston Whaler center console sun shade is a crime against humanity. Just wow

(somewhere there is a center console with...

Re: Sailboat interior seaworthy design

I liked the lower profile as well, it was a very good looking unit, even better up close in person. Spare parts were fairly cheap IIRC, I bought a set when I bought the unit (I can't remember the...

Re: Sailboat interior seaworthy design

OP, while we're on the topic of Albergs and seaworthiness, I'd like to mention some other areas you might consider. Chainplates and their gussets is an area to upgrade. The stock ones are anemic at...

Re: Sailboat interior seaworthy design

It was a Norvane. I was very happy with its construction, fit and finish. Top notch buying experience as well, real nice folks at Norvane. Great price as well.

Re: Canvas Costs

I'd like that, thank you :)

If you ever make it down to the lower Eastern Shore (nearish to OC), I'd like to show you how my 111W155 will sew through a piece of Luan (and other things related to...

Re: Canvas Costs

Many of you guys make a compelling argument against using a professional canvas man or investing in a real machine or the time and effort in learning how to actually make canvas. I never really...

Re: Sailboat interior seaworthy design

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated. Funny you mention bulwarks, if I had it to do over again I would have done just that. The metal toe rail was really nice (snatch blocks, tie down points,...

Re: Sailboat interior seaworthy design

I had planned on handholds, nets and all the other crap you're supposed to have. It was originally on the big list to do. Never got to it before getting rid of the boat. Yes, I did sharpish corners...

Re: Sailboat interior seaworthy design

I pulled the Yanmar (an epic mistake) and went semi motorless (long story). We went with an o/b on a removable bracket, which did work but wasn't optimal.

Installed but unfinished in this pic:...

Re: Sailboat interior seaworthy design

The Alberg is pretty tight on space, and a liner boat will be even tighter. What we did was focus on the V berth as a place to gain storage. We removed the forward water tank and storage bulkhead...

Re: Annapolis live-aboard

I kept boats at Magothy Marina and even owned a slip there for awhile. If you like a party scene, events, lots of interaction with others and a sheltered marina environment it might fit the bill....

Re: The New Generation

Lol... I'd settle for a force for honesty. We did it our way, and I believed in it 100% every step of the way. I had a blast arguing the merits of simplicity, pure sailing and manual systems. Even...

Oh, and yes - the very worst thing in the world is a composting head. I forgot to confirm that fact in my long post above. Just awful.

Re: Living permanently on a boat...could this fantasy become real

Hey.

How minimal are you thinking? Composting head/oil lamps/alcohol cooking? Head with water in it/battery powered lighting/propane cooking? Define simple as it applies to you?

re: Husband killed as he defends his wife from yacht robbers in St Lucia

While technically correct that this thread hasn't gone too anti gun (yet), the fact remains that this forum has a majority opinion against firearms and cruising, and a history of vilification of...
