Re: A Not so Good Experience with a Sailnet(er) transaction

I too do a lot of business via Pay Pal (although I can't claim 14,000 transactions.) Never have had a problem.

Re: A Not so Good Experience with a Sailnet(er) transaction

I'd say more than enough time has elapsed. Not only has it been a month since the OP shipped the item to the buyer, but the buyer fed him a line about the check being the mail, which of course turned...

Re: What would cause this?

The key is likely dezincified. This results in brittleness and could be why it failed.

Re: Is it possible; no more toxic antifouling?

CMP Bioclean appears to be a silicon-based foul release coating. Nothing new here as there are other similar coatings already on the recreational boating market, most notably the Interlux Intersleek...

Re: How will nanotechnology improve sailboats and sailing?

Next time you try to back up out of your slip and nothing happens, don't be surprised if your prop is missing.

Just sayin'. http://www.fotolode.com/images/fstbttms/Emoticons/whistling.gif

Re: Liveaboard in SF Bay?

The San Leandro Marina is an undredged mud hole with a two mile long access channel (also undredged.) The city wants to develop the marina into an office park. It's days are numbered.

Re: Fouling this season - How was it for you?

You telling me you cleaned the bottom 9 times in 2014 and this is what you found when you hauled?

Re: Boat surfing

The OP needs to reach out to boat owners who are willing to rent out or lease their boat. What better place to find someone for this arrangement than craigslist?

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

Yes, how could I have not retained a tidbit of arcane knowledge you apparently dropped in this thread 120 posts ago?

That said, just a couple of posts ago you inferred that sacrificial...

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

So you are making an assumption about historic anti fouling techniques, not posting from empiracle knowledge.

And "sacrificial timber"? That's a new one on me.

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

Copper sheathing was used to deter teredo worms, not other fouling organisms.

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

They are grounding blocks, which are frequently mounted in pairs and they are made of bronze.

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

This is Hull Cleaning 101 stuff and you should know it. The reason copper-based anti fouling paints work is because they are designed to leach their particular form of copper biocide into the...

Re: Sealion chases boat at 25mph to get hand out

Yeah- encouraging wild animals to approach humans and speeding powerboats to get fed by hand. What could possibly go wrong?

Re: Antifouling in the Caribbean

So let me get this straight. The points of your argument are:

1.- Rather than make boaters follow existing laws, every small boat harbor on the planet should be "redesigned" to so that you can...

Re: Antifouling in the Caribbean

Umm... yes. If I can't use an illegal anti fouling paint here in the States, why should you be able to? The fact that you brought your boat in from somewhere else doesn't give you special...

Re: Antifouling in the Caribbean

Re: Antifouling in the Caribbean

While it has been a very long time since I've been asked to clean a tin-based paint, after 20 years and 20,000+ hull cleanings, there are few anti fouling products that haven't passed under my hands....

Re: Antifouling in the Caribbean

If you have a shred of concern about the environment, you won't use the Sea Hawk tin-based paint, regardless of where the boat lives. That crap is even illegal in China, for God's sake, which should...
