Thats pretty much how I did it... read Chapmans first, and didnt understand a lot of it, then read Sailing for Dummies, and Chapmans made much more sense the second time.

Mast refinish?

I looked into powder coating... went kind of nuts on it on my 22'' MacGregor... had the windows, all the cleats, even the anchors, powder coated copper... looked beautiful, and still holding up well...
