Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

I am not locked in.

However, I am veritably locked in (by my own choosing) for a few reasons.

1) I want this done in a reasonable time frame and both teaching myself how to and doing it will...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

Well, off to work on her some more for the day. We are prepping her for a spray as we are changing hull colors, the side not pictured is about sanded to be ready for priming.

We may roll on and...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

The one great thing the previous owner did was replace the teak decks with fiberglass. Cores were leaky and that took a lot of the hard maintenance work out. Now we have the side teak, cockpit teak...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

Sadly though tedious it is the route our repower shop is taking. Unless they want the engine to make a frame.

We chose semi poorly in Marina, by opting for the one in our home town we limited...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

Bilge cleaner, scrubbing and work. We repainted the bilge paint last year when the engine was out.

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

And we could move the engine fore a bit to get more width but that would most certainly require a new shaft (cheaper than stringer work) and would limit our tankage a bit but it is certainly...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

Yea I think that will do better as the forum seems to want to rotate some things to odd directions and they can't be rotated.

Will be back once I figure out what my flickr accounts name is or...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

Posting pictures now. Worked our butts off yesterday.

To reply to the last poster, we hate the refit process. And our plan is to do the majority of the work in the water. After the repower is done...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

I have a bunch of pictures to upload today once I am done working on her.

With some measurements to go with it.

Also I got a much more reasonable stringer quote, when I told the guy how much...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

Thank you all for your replies.

Sorry Denise, if I came off defensive I am just not one to relegate thinking to someone else. I know the move sounded nightmarish, that is because everything that...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

I will take some tomorrow when I am down at her working.

The stringers for our boat are all glassed in. No plates can be seen to change heights.

Our stringers look like two fiberglass humps...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

A very polite Captain just asked a question I think clear this reason for pic requests up.

Yes the existing stringers will hold the new engine.

Yes the existing stringers will support the new...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

Mystery? What are pictures of an empty bilge going to do for you, if I may ask?

My bilge is a big empty bilge with no tanks etc in the way and the engine sits directly in the bilge rather an an...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

The trucking company in question in my other thread did indeed have a hydralulic truck. What I think people are not getting is we were blocked in by other boats that could not be moved. No one could...

Re: Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild oldd engine versus repower with new

Oh and stringer quotes have been 6k, "no less than 8k" and "no more than 10k". That is 3 quotes form 3 different guys.

All say it is due to the labor intense nature of removing the old ones and...

I should say that the sails and rigging are fine according to out rigger and have quotes about sailing in there...we actually would prefer to be better sailors than motor sail. We are headed out for...

Hans Christian 39 Pilothouse; Rebuild/Replace old engine versus Repower with New

First off let me preface this by saying this not your ordinary boat buy, well perhaps it was. We fell in love with what she could be, not what she was.

Her hull is gorgeous, and one of four still...

Re: Need a hand, having issues finding a lift in Kemah

There are a few serious presumptions in your post. Ones that also allude to you not learning the lesson here that we should read before we reply.

I did find a shipper to move my boat from Texas to...

Re: Need a hand, having issues finding a lift in Kemah

Took 3 day longer than expected. Leaving our shipper pressed for time (has another load to pick up).

Cost far far too much. But. Boat gets loaded Monday by a professional crane crew.

Owner of...

I do not know if this is a sad or a simply laughable thing.

The Threat of Litigation is the greatest motivator of American's who are being lazy about something.

Re: Need a hand, having issues finding a lift in Kemah

Marsh Marine DryDock in Kemah Texas.

It is no where near an actual marina, its DiY, and the owner has not been answering any calls for weeks now.

Sort of frustrated.

Both Marinas said they...

Re: Need a hand, having issues finding a lift in Kemah

If it was as easy as moving to another wet marina and getting out of the water I would be fine.

We are blocked on the hard at Marsh.

Need a mobile lift.

Will call them both to see if anyone...

Need a hand, having issues finding a lift in Kemah

Our Hans Christian 39' is currently on dry dock in a DiY yard in Kemah (I can tell a lift driver exactly where)

I am scheduled to put her on a truck for Seattle August 4th. I am having issues...
