Re: Crew Mate Needed for VA to FL trip

I might be interested if you haven't found crew yet. I'm a licensed captain with much offshore experience. This past November the owner of a PSC 34 and I delivered his boat to the Virgin Islands...

Re: Security cameras for boat

Get a good outdoor, infrared camera (night vision). They are expensive, though, if you go with Axis, which is the gold standard of cameras. There are less expensive cameras, but you get what you pay...

Re: Crew wanted, Portland Maine to Bahamas and/or BVIs

I might be interested. I have a lot of blue water experience and have spent time in the Bahamas and eastern Caribbean. Only problem is I'll be in Europe until the last week of October. If...

Re: cruising the Mediterranean?

I would not do that trip with six crew on that size boat. Four seasoned blue water sailors is the most and possibly three crew is optimal for a number of reasons.

Re: Westsail 32 opinions

I delivered a Westsail some years ago from the Turks and Caicos to Venezuela. Once we picked up the trade winds, the self steering vane took over and we didn't touch the helm for four days.

It...

Re: Hello from Florida ! My first sailboat !

What area are you in? I'd like to trade some help for a little time in the cockpit sailing if you are somewhere in the Tampa Bay area.

Re: Cruise Ship

That second video gave a different perspective on their heading. It does look like they are heading into the swells on an angle, but the seas are really confused with swells possibly coming from two...

Re: Cruise Ship

Wow! Bet there are a lot of seasick people on that ship.

Shouldn't the captain be steering the bow just a little bit more to port to take those seas?

Where are you going or is this just day sailing out of your home port?

Re: First Delivery

I read your blog about the trip. When I used to do deliveries a lot, one of the problems were boats that sat for an extended period of time. Then I would take them out on a delivery and growth inside...

Re: 4th of July weekend

Here's an interesting comment related to July 4th fireworks. I was on a boat in the Bahamas last month that had some mainsail problems. We had to take it to a sailmaker in Nassau for repair. Upon...

Re: If you suffer from heat....

I just got back from the Bahamas a week ago after a month there. The Berry's, Nassau and even the Exumas were comfortable. Then I returned to the Tampa Bay area. Wow! What a difference. HOT! The...

Re: Sailing USVI/BVI from CYOA Yacht Charters

This link is the official BVI site with customs info. It does not appear to give the park fees, but you can probably get that by looking around a little bit.

The question is whether or not your...

Re: Take Your Shoes Off in the Cabin

So far it looks like we have a split decision on the question; although one thing is coming through loud and clear. In the tropics, which is where I do most of my sailing, take 'em off.

Again,...

Re: Take Your Shoes Off in the Cabin

I'm not disputing whether or not the owner can make rules. I just never heard of that one (remove shoes) and was wondering how prevalent it is.

Take Your Shoes Off in the Cabin

I recently spent a couple of weeks in the Windward Islands on a really nice Odyssey 49. I was there to help the owner who was a very nice gentleman. It was an interesting experience and maybe a...

Re: Exp. Crew or Capt. Wanted for W. Palm to Rhode Isl

I've done that delivery a couple of times; although a little short of RI. If you do the delivery without stopping, seven or eight days is not unrealistic. Don't forget. You have the Gulf Stream...

Re: Sailing USVI/BVI from CYOA Yacht Charters

I chartered from CYOA 25 years ago and they were great then. I've tried a few times in recent years but could never get the right boat for a large group. Rather than being disappointed I'm...

Re: New listing for Fuji 35

Thank you, Tempest. I see where I made my error. I searched for a "Fuji 35." I should have just searched for a "Fuji."

Re: Moving to Cocoa Beach and...

I used to sail a Hunter 27 in the area of Merritt Island. The Hunter drew about 3 1/2 feet, so I had pretty good range in the Indian River. I spent two years sailing there and always had fun. It...

Re: New listing for Fuji 35

I am curious about the boat and looked it up on Yachtword.com. They show only two Fuji 35's listed. One is in San Diego and the other is in East Boston. Is the latter the boat you are writing...

Do I to understand this correctly? Even someone with US Merchant Marine masters ticket would not qualify to charter unless they acquired an ASA certification?

Re: Endeavour 37

I've been trying to buy an Endeavour 37 for some time. Owners say they want to sell, but then go away when you start asking questions. It's really strange. But that's not what you are asking...
