Re: NE Insurance Rates - Reasonable?
That seems high. We are in Rhode Island and pay about $950 a year for a boat valued at $185,000. Contact an insurance agency that specializes in boats to see what they can do for you. We use

Re: What's with these flat-bottom mooring buoys?
I switched to one of these buoys so the mooring shackles don't scratch my hull. The flat bottom buoy doesn't lay over on its side as much as a round buoy and so it is less likely that the shackles...

Re: Dripless Shaft Seal versus Stuffing Box
Not all dripless shaft seals use bellows like PSS. Take a look for instance at the Lasdrop Gen II dripless shaft seal. There is no bellows to tear or give way.

Why not splice the original cable - the one that does have a connector and was used to on the stern mount - into the new cable that goes up the mast? Not sure is the wqires in the two cables are...

Re: Approaching a marina.
Well, in New England you will have more luck using Channel 9 to contact a marina rather than Channel 16. And some marinas and most yacht clubs in New England only monitor their working channel. So...

Re: Knapps Narrows Incident - Post Mortem
Approaching a dock with the wind & current behind you is always problematic. Is there a reason why you could not approach the dock heading into the wind and current?

Re: Marthas Vinyard
I've taken an Island Packet 37 into Lake Tashomoo many, many times and at low tide there is a LOT more than 2 to 3 feet of water and that was before the dredging that was done about 2 or three years...

Re: Marthas Vinyard
If you want privacy then Oak Bluffs is not the the place to go. Oak Bluffs requires you to raft on their moorings so you will end up rafted to people you do not know.

Re: Relocating from Chesapeake to New England
I believe the use tax ONLY applies if you purchased your boat recently (within 2 years) AND did not pay the sales tax in the state in which you purchased it. At least that is the way it works in...

Re: Relocating from Chesapeake to New England
Why not keep the boat in Maine? The best cruising in all of New England and mooring/slip charges and storage charges are probably less than the Boston, Buzzards Bay and Narragansett Bay area.

Re: Shower sump pump failure
I'm confused. Why don't you wire the float switch directly to the Whale pump? I ask because all sump pumps I've had had the float switch directly wired to the pump. What purpose does the "frenmch"...

We've stayed at Provincetown Mooring lots of times. Last time was in 2010 and I think the fee for a transient mooring $45 a night. They do operate a launch service which comes with the mooring. The...
