Re: Advice on O'Day 22

We owned one back in the 70's-80's. Very simple boat, yet a forgiving design. Since we had previously owned a swing keel boat, we felt the O'Day was much more stable and sailed better.

I agree...

Re: Choosing a depth sounder

I epoxied my Hawkeye transducer in the bilge and it works fine.

Re: Depth sounder recommendations

I recently installed a Hawkeye 10d10 depth finder on our Cape Dory 25. Very thorough installation instructions covering varying types of locations. (You can look through the manual on their...

Re: sailing in a thunderstorm

Some years ago a boat racing on our inland lake was hit by lightning. Being a trailer-sailer you would think it would go through the swing keel. Instead, it came down the shrouds and entered the...

Re: Stylish and effective sailing hat

I second the motion for Tilley. Found mine at REI and, though not what you would consider fashionable, it keeps the sun off and is relatively cool in these hot Texas summers.

My dermatologist has...

Re: Wonderfully 'quirky' interior

Doesn't anyone remember "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea"? Looks like Captain Nemo has been there.

Pretty neat.

Re: Progressive Insurance

My boat isn't up to the value of yours (10k), but I've had very good service with Progressive. They stepped in last year when the wind caught us in the marina and threw us into our neighbors.

Re: Whisker Pole Sticker Shock

There's a nice article in the May/June issue of Good Old Boat that shows you how to make your own whisker pole for about $50. I'm going to adapt the idea to use for awning poles.

Re: Choosing a slip at the Marina

I'll second JoeDiver's advice. Our lake fared better than his, dropping maybe 5 feet but I'm lucky in that even though I'm closest to the walkway and parking lot, it's still about 20 feet of water...

Re: Choosing a slip at the Marina

I was also concerned about insurance. My homeowners policy covers boats, but the marina conglomerate wanted to be on the policy as an additional insured. Hartford said no.

Went to a friend...

Re: beachable/groundable trailer sailer

You might do a search overseas. When we were in Scotland we saw a large number of sailboats with shoal draft TWIN keels. When the tide was out, they were resting on the bottom still tied up in...

Re: Your favorite IPhone apps for sailing?

From your description, that app sounds like StarWalk. Very cool.
