There's a wake there that seems to reveal a hip tow on the starboard side, and it is turning hard to port...weight aloft could enhance the heel.

If you are looking at sites that really get into specifics of the LEDs, look for 'color temperature'. The warm white will be about 3000*Kelvin or less. The cold bluish white is paradoxically...

An alternative material to the wax could be plumber's putty. You could warm it to make it pliable without melting it, an that way make it conform around the wires. It might be less messy to remove...

I don't know about the other's, but the center band on the unit would be used for AM radio stations. The AM band is 540–1610 kHz (or .54MHz - 1.61 MHz)

With only one connection, a rheostat isn't doing anything.....
It may be that the box was reconfigured at some point, and it was left in.
As far as 'could there be' questions...there are others...
