Re: Does DOW 795 ever cure, bond or dry?

Just found the Dow specs for the Dow 795 - and now I realize whats happening ---" In totally confined joints (the sealant
requires atmospheric moisture for cure)"
In using this Dow 795 the more...

Re: Does DOW 795 ever cure, bond or dry?

On the tube is stamped Oct 10 -- so i assume Oct. 2010 -- is it too old? Will it eventually to the job or do I need to re-do the windows?
Also I had just wrapped the nozzle of the leftover...

Re: Does DOW 795 ever cure, bond or dry?

Oh no...... just checked one of the tubes and on it was stamped 2010 -- so it seems they sold me old stock ------ on the pluss side yesterday I checked the windows again and the perimeter bead seems...

Re: .

Did not re-use the frames - just surface mounted the plexi using automotive tape, Dow 795 and few screws. Have posted my procedure. The windows look good however a bit bothersome that the silicone...

Does DOW 795 ever cure, bond or dry?

As previously posted I surface installed new windows on my C&C 26. As suggested i used Dow 795 caulking. Now more then a week later this Dow stuff is still tacky and soft. I smeared a line of it...

Re: Cored wood bulkhead on C&C 24

Wow can't believe that it hasn't sold for only $900 -- how did you transport it to your place? If still available would be interested in the outboard motor bracket, Binini, any sails you may have,...

Re: Cored wood bulkhead on C&C 24

There is absolutely nothing that will not sell! You can sell just about anything if the price is right. Just bought my C&C for a song which was less then 50% of the asking price because it was...

Re: How I replaced Windows on my C&C 26

I think the job I did is not perfect but it seems OK and from a distance looks great. BUT I am disappointed that close-up and when the sun hits the windows I can see my not so straight and un-even...

Re: Replacing windows by adhesive & Butyl tape?

Where were all you good people with the advise before I started my re-seal job? I googled and visited two marine supply houses but didn't find or get advise anywhere near as good as I now get.

Re: Replacing windows by adhesive & Butyl tape?

Yes I agree but I couldn't find this neoprene gasket - When I inquired at my local marine supply they sold me Butyl tape which after doing some research I didn't use. I did use a 3M automotive tape...

Re: Replacing windows by adhesive & Butyl tape?

I am aware that the screw holes should not be too small - however twice the size as you suggest would not hold the screws. The factory did use many screws to secure the original window frame. Yes...

Cool How I replaced Windows on my C&C 26

Early this afternoon I removed one of the main cabin windows. Despite trying to be patient and very careful I managed to bend the window frame. Trying to get the old plastic out was futile. The...

Re: Replacing windows by adhesive & Butyl tape?

OK got quote Approx $800 for only two windows which I am cut and pasting - not cost effective at all unless one has more money then brains --
Windows for a C&C 26 sell for $250.00 each. These are...

Re: Replacing windows by adhesive & Butyl tape?

I appears that some new boats use this method but perhaps they don't just rely on the adhesive bond. Is there more to this then meets the eye?

Just checked the C&C owners pages and googled the...

Re: Replacing windows by adhesive & Butyl tape?

OK - New Windows would be my first choice but I fear it would not be cost affective -followed by just replacing the plexiglass but I think the problem would be all those little screws --- have...

Re: Replacing windows by adhesive & Butyl tape?

I made a mistake - I did not mean Butyl tape but 3M 4991 double sided tape. I have seen several boats at marinas with surface mounted windows strictly relying on the tape adhesion. Seems a simple way...

Re: Keel bolt torque values ????

Yes the same table can be found on the C&C do it yourself web pages. However as I stated earlier I used a 3' breaker bar and torqued as much as I could. I did go to a rental place and they showed me...
