Re: Looking for small, affordable printer for on the boat

Do you need color? I would prefer a small laser printer as the consumables are way cheaper and the output is fairly waterproof. Even water resistant ink jet will run if it gets damp.

Re: Arduino / Raspberry Pi based instrumentation?

Can the pie run open cpn? I have an Intel atom processor machine that runs on.12 volts that I plan to run open cpn on.

Re: Advice For Good Boat To Learn On

Nice looking boat! Just keep in mind, even if you have a big enough truck to pull it, you are not going to be backing that down a ramp and siding it off like a power boat that size. It will have to...

Re: Catalina 34

Yea the smile issue is on early 80's I think, but will check the bolts as best I can before calling for a survey. The 36/34 are very close. I like the rear head on the 34 a lot.

Catalina 34

I looked at a 1986 Catalina 34 over the weekend. Went out on a nice test sail too! Oh and the guy bought me a beer at the yacht club! Boat is quite a reasonable price I think, and while I had been...

Re: Need tips on moving a small wooden Catspaw Dinghy from R.I. to CA

If you get it to a freight company they can be surprisingly cheap, as long as it is on a pallet. Check motorcycle/snowmovile/water sports dealers for long pallets. Generally free.

Re: Crack in the headliner fiberglass?

Not a deal breaker but something that will need to be dealt with. There likely some deck or compression post issues.

Re: Arduino / Raspberry Pi based instrumentation?

Look at Summit Racing they have lots of generic gage and sending units.

Re: Moving from fresh to salt water moorage - questions

So you are saying you have not tried it either then? Well the article you posted basically said it would not work particularly well. Have you ever had a baby and used the stuff? It is washed off...

Re: Malo 45' loses rudder, pulls an All is Lost

My thought was that as the rudder stock started to break and twist and break the rudder collar and packing gland the auto pilot kept crunching it as it did not know it was doing damage. A person hand...

Re: Moving from fresh to salt water moorage - questions

OK use your own numbers, and assume it will last a year as that is the max the article claims. I highly doubt it will last a year at least if you ever use your boat, or have any current where you...

Well here is his summation:

Remember the original study was from 1996 and paints have changed since then, and are changing every year.

Re: cost to seal through hulls and install a new backing plate

Hope you meant to say bronze as a standard brass plug will corrode quickly. Might reverse itself sooner than anticipated.

Re: Arduino / Raspberry Pi based instrumentation?

I would think you would need new senders but that should not be expensive as you can use standard ones the idiot lights are controlled by sensors that trigger a signal a to a point not a continuous...

Re: Cabo Rico 38 vs. Moody 376

Oh you will, haven't you heard sailboats are chick magnets!

Looks like a great boat. Very well made from all reports, I have never seen one in person though.

Re: Sailing Dog's Boat Destroyed By Fire

He could be abrupt and had a bit of a superior attitude, but I don't remember him ever calling anyone names here. He seemed to be especially irritated, for good reason, with anyone who was looking...

Re: Sorry, balsa cored hull questions

Big difference between cored hull and cored deck. The vast majority of decks are cored with either with balsa or foam. Repairs on decks are fairly straight forward. There is some good info posted by...

Re: polycarbonate window thickness?

Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are very few uses for 5200 on a boat. Do yourself a favor and don't use it for anything. 5200 is very permanent, and should require a special license to use! I don't...

Re: 473 cabin upgrade

Generally removing bulkheads is not a good idea unless you involve a navel architect. Especially on modern boats as often the structure of the boat depends on them.

Re: 220V to 110V

The thing to watch out for is the wiring may be undersized for 110. Lower voltage means higher amperage so you need thicker wires so you may have to rewire some circuits.

Re: Sorry, balsa cored hull questions

Those circular marks looks like it bounced off of a submerged piling or something. But looks like it could easily be passed off as bottom paint for sure!

Re: Compared to a CSY 44

I personally don't like center cockpits for the most part ascetically, but may wind up with one some day. I am currently looking for a live-aboard, and have been looking at blue water boats as well....
