I use my palm to control the fine tune. My other hand controls the tail. Then u can easily slip it back into the jaws of a self tailing winch. Using your palm to peel off a sheet is not a good idea....

I would think a certified welder would be able to TIG weld a fitting up there. It has to be someone that knows aluminum. The tang fitting may be a better idea though. You should talk to a rigger.

I use the West System 105 with the fast hardner (205). It isn't fast. Very hard and durable. Proven track record.
On your hull i would use a good barrier coat.

Goof off works great on fiberglass for non-organic. Wipe on wipe off. Instant. DON'T use on anodized aluminum, it will strip it.
