I think that the point is you don't have to turn 160 degrees. If you dump all your wind you only turn up until your sails are luffing. You avoid the knockdown and can work from there

You offer what it is worth to you so if you look at a boat they are asking $15K for and you see it worth $10K then that is your offer. If you have cash and they are tired...
