Re: Look at that!!!!! The Greek are crazy..or Brave

Ok, as a proud Greek, sailor and psychologist...crazy it is! I love it. I wear around my neck a 2100 year old Greek coin with Tyche on one side (luck) and Astarte standing on a galley, tiller in...

Re: That can't be good..... right?

I agree with Paul. Over drill to get some more information.

I would over drill the size anyway so I could fill it with thickened epoxy and make a new hole. It will be stronger and water tight.

Re: Documentation Vs. State Registration

I'm in the process of transferring the documentation to my name (again). The Coast Guard is nearly 4 months behind in processing. I need my documentation paperwork for the Town to grant my mooring...

Found this.

Learn something new every day.

Re: Best small boat for cruising the Bahamas?

I'm pretty sure the 1960 design date is before MORC rule. I have the original paperwork listing it's CCA rating.

My point was the boat sails well without use of the board, better with it.

Re: Best small boat for cruising the Bahamas?

The T 27 centerboard has a pivot pin and uses a line on a pulley to raise and lower. It weighs about 115 pounds. I've jammed it a couple of times when I've run aground in rocks/pebbles. A screw...

Re: Best small boat for cruising the Bahamas?

Alert. Biased response.

I own a 1966 Tartan 27. Three foot two inch draft with board up. Very stable, easy motion in a seaway, can handle almost anything you will encounter. Sail great even...

Re: Decommissioning through hulls?

I was given advice that is a blend of the above. Grind/bevel the hole. Duct tape the outside. Mix up some Fiber Hair and fill from inside. Cover inside and out with fiberglass cloth. Makes a...

Re: Inflatable tender for 30' sailboat

Check out Sea Eagle. Good quality, significantly cheaper than name brands. Have had 8.5 foot for almost 10 years and it is in great shape.

Re: make a gale sail

I've done this. I used a Gale Sail on my Tartan 27 and loved it. When I bought my C&C it came with an unused storm jib and storm tri. I sent the jib to ATN and they added the sleeve. Very nice. ...

Re: Atomic 4 fume danger?

I have a 1966 A 4. Great engine. Safe, reliable. While its true that gasoline is more combustible than diesel, history shows that proper care and ventilation is all that is required.

Btw, many...

Re: Rethinking inboard

Ok, here's one that is sure to flop.

Put in a new Atomic 4 from Moyer Marine! Perfect size for boats in this range, benefits of inboard, no smell.

Really, I'm serious. I hate the smell of...

Re: Transom mounted boarding ladder?

Just a thought.

The transom is not the best place to board in swells. I removed my stern mounted ladder on my C&C 34 for a removable ladder I used midship.

The other reason I removed it is it...

Smack has provided a public service announcement!

I would add that maybe its not about intelligence - idiot, moron, imbecile - but maybe, just maybe, its about spirit/soul. You gotta feel it! ...

Re: Buying a 30-40 year old boat - your opinions

I'm the third and fifth owner of my 1966 Tartan 27. I wouldn't part with her...again.

Long story, but in the end it offers what I'm looking for in a boat.

It's not the age, it's the quality...

Re: Tiller Pilot

I have a used 1000 for my Tartan 27. Works great. The T 27 is known for it's balance under sail, so the tiller pilot doesn't work too hard. Having said that, it's usually better to go up one size. ...

Re: Boarding and rafting to stranger's boats.

For what it's worth, I've never seen this done in the Long Island Sound area. I've circled around, waiting for dock space.

Rafting only occurs among friends or social gatherings on moorings.

Re: Mooring vs slip?

Here's a vote for a mooring. Sail on and off with ease, private, and often safer for the boat, providing your neighbors maintain their tackle!

Re: thoughts on 1971 Yankee Dolphin 24?

Very pretty boat to my eye. Looks like a Tartan 27 little sister. Cramped down below, but well designed.

As has been said, it's all about the deck. Powered by outboard in a well - no problem...

Re: Seafarer 34 Purchase - Trampoline Deck Problem

Gotta second the "low" thought

Re: Mounting Eybrows?

The eyebrows on my Tartan 27 screw through to the grab rails on the inside. I can't imagine just glueing hem on. Butyl will not hold without mechanical support. What's on the inside?

Re: Sailing into the slip

Reminds me of the movie "City Slickers"

There's nothin like brining in the herd!

There's nothin like sailing into your slip or up to your mooring!
