Re: Wiring Help Please

Delta-T,

Thanks for that, but I don't have a Sure Power Isolator, how does that effect the resulting wiring diagram?

Also, do I just disconnect the Dynastart and let it "charge" into thin...

Re: Wiring Help Please

Update: After a lot of internet browsing, I've decided to not use the Dynastart to charge the start battery. But rather use the alternator to charge both and leave the Dynastart for starting only. ...

Wiring Help Please

I need some help. Over the next bit I'll be re-wiring some of my engine / charging systems on the youth sailing school boat (Carter 33) I've posted about here before.

Here's the deal:

Engine:...

Re: That's a pretty cheap boat heater!

Ha! You're probably right, but it's got to be safer than a "burn-o-matic" pressurized alcohol stove! Once I almost turned me and the boat into a bbq - not cool.

That's a pretty cheap boat heater!

I haven't tried this yet but seems like an interesting idea. Has anyone given this a go? Did it work?

I may try it next time I'm at the boat and before the real cold sets in. And to be clear -...

Filling a cored deck

I work with a youth sailing program in Michigan and this past fall we were given a Carter 33 to use for our big-lake sailing program on Lake Michigan.

All things considered, the boat is in very...

Re: Volvo MD6A weird issue!

To follow up with this issue. I was at the boat yesterday and replaced the relay with Bosh part# 0 332 002 156. BINGO! The old relay was the issue. The new one worked as it should have.

Re: Volvo MD6A weird issue!

So I'm having trouble finding the same unit (not surprising!). I've been searching high and low, but I can't seem to find it.

The part I need is this:
Bosch 0 332 002 155...

Re: Volvo MD6A weird issue!

I was able to get away today and head to the boat. My first attempt to diagnose the issue was to isolate the ignition switch, to determine if the problem was further up stream of if I need a new key...

Re: Volvo MD6A weird issue!

I'm not headed down to the boat until later this week. I'll know more then. Thanks for all the help and I'll keep ya posted.

Re: Volvo MD6A weird issue!

Let's assume for a moment that it is in fact the solenoid. Would it make sense that two weeks ago I had the same issue happen, then it "fixed" itself and didn't come back until yesterday. Can a...

Re: Volvo MD6A weird issue!

Thanks guys, but before I head down to the boat, remove the starter and take it to a shop, are there any other ideas (if not the starter solenoid) or quick fix-it ideas?

What could have caused...

Re: Volvo MD6A weird issue!

Classic30 - thanks for that! Any ideas why this might have happened?

Out of curiosity, what could the long-term ramifications be of running an engine with a "stuffed" starter solenoid?

And...

Volvo MD6A weird issue!

I've got a new-to-me Carter 33 with a Volvo MD6A 10hp. The engine starts and runs like a champ, with one hitch - the starter won't turn off!? Seriously, if I have any power running into the system,...

Re: Morgan 33T

Thanks ThirdCoast. I am familiar with the Morgan 33 OI, but we're looking at a seemingly rare 1978 Morgan 33T, which is a IOR 3/4 tonner racer/cruiser. Here is a picture from the original brochure....

Sailingdog,

That is what my initial thought was, but I'm not really sure why I felt that way. Any specifics of why a polyurethane-based adhesive is a bad idea?

Thanks,
