I'm saying that running an engine for a few minutes, then shutting it off, without allowing it to warm up or run at a consistent RPM is not good for diesel engines. Especially if the oil change...

10K hrs. is the typical limit on these smaller marine diesels. Such an engine with 5K hours is only in 'mid life', IF the engine had good maintenance.

Easy enough after talking to several people around the marina/boatyard. Owners associations should help you figure out the likely trouble spots.
Boatyard managers know who the local surveyors are...

Yes... the coupling you see in the photo is under the arrow in the diagram, the shaft is shown exiting at an appropriate angle for the hull, carries on through the shaft log and strut to the prop.
