Re: Going to Catalina in Gale???

Check the wind direction. Avalon harbor can be dangerous during Santa Anas. Tuesday and Wednesdays winds are projected to be strong from the northwest. You should have a hard beat to weather for...

Re: 1989 Hunter 40 - A million questions.

I am not being disrespectful but am asking. How do you steer and and navigate from outside? I have a GPS on a swing arm visible from the wheel. To plot a course, I either sit outside or sit inside...

Re: Circumnavigation with partner

You need to have one captain to make the final decision in any situation BUT the captain needs to listen to and take into consideration the other person's concern. If your boyfriend can listen to...

Re: What made you buy your boat?

We bought our Catalina 30 because it was big enough to take the whole family, two of us and three older kids but small enough for the two of us to handle ourselves. We needed a boat that we could...

Re: Fuel Tank size error

That's something I wondered about. I did not have to bleed the system. When it ran out of fuel, we shut everything down. Since the gauge was on empty and the engine died, I assumed we were out of...

Re: Fuel Tank size error

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll have to put some more investigation into it. I'll let you know if I learn anything. Meanwhile, I'll sail based on a 12 gallon range.

Re: Fuel Tank size error

I am fairly confident about my tank capacity being 18 gallons. but holding only 12 usable gallons. So my real question is, do you think I could have 6 gallons of algae, shmootz, dirt, gunk built up...

Re: Fuel Tank size error

The tank shape is such that the bottom of pick up tube is lower down than the bottom of the sender.

#2 Sailboats heel and slosh back and forth in a sea thus exposing the pick up to air.. As tanks...

Re: insurance/survey

I am going to come out and say what a lot of people on this board are thinking. You cant afford this boat. You NEED liability insurance. If your boat sinks or leaks, the environmental cost is...

Re: Admiral wont let me name the boat "Bikini Bottom"

If you want her to be a parter on the boat and use it a lot, listen to her. Come up with a name that you both like. If you don't care and want the boat to be a point of contention and conflict, then...

Re: Things lost in the water

We lost two whisker poles in Westlake. We had a new C14.2 and tried out racing. Running down wind and approaching the mark, my wife takes the pole of the sail and flings it over the side. We just...

Re: Adventure Sailing

Why pick on electronics as technology you don't like. How about excluding fiberglass. It is too high tech. How about excluding aluminum masts? The old timers would have loved an aluminum mast. ...

Re: I had a great sail today.

Do not try to stop the boat by putting a foot out! Your boat weighs 20,000 pounds plus. It will really mess up your foot, ankle leg... We have all acted without thinking but that is REALLY...
