Re: Bad boat buying experience

In a sale like this, who holds the deposit if there is one?

Sounds risky.

Re: First time I swore at a customer

I didn't know that buying an 18K boat makes one relatively wealthy.

I might not own a nice enough car to buy a 100k boat. :)

Re: Getting sold boat prices from broker

Brokers know that most boats eventually sell so there is no reason not to take a listing that someone else will take anyway.

Re: Getting sold boat prices from broker

The broker has zero control over asking price. All he can do is recommend. It is the seller who is usually unrealistic.

Boats that don't sell generate no commission. That should be obvious.

If...

Re: Is the sailboat market really this bad?

I understand very well that the market is cyclical. I sold my last home, a townhouse in MD that I paid 162k for in 1994 for 410k in 2007 after putting 50k into it.

I have been renting in FL ever...

Re: Is the sailboat market really this bad?

You also said that meaningful appreciation didn't occur until 1998. That certainly was not true in the Boston market.

I purchased a home for 39K in 1976 and sold it for 124k in 1984. I then...

Re: My Tow vehicle

Sounds like a topic for a Ranger forum. Lots of good info out there.

The forum folks were great when I was modding my F-350.

Re: Steel vs Fiberglass

Actually the luxury tax on new boats over 100k wasn't passed until late 1991. It lasted two years.

On top of everything else that you mentioned it was the final nail in the marine industry's...

Pearson 30 not 31 right? I have owned two of them. They are fun and lively.

Re: Is a 32' Sailboat Over-sized for a Beginner?

The OP isn't considering a dinghy. He is comparing a Catalina 27 with a Morgan 32. There won't be much difference so no reason not to get the Morgan to live on.

I learned on a Soling at the...

Re: Coast Guard Documentation process times.

There used to be a reg requiring you to turn in the document when the boat was sold. There was also an $x/day fine for not complying.

Re: Own your own 'Dockominiums' in Fort Lauderdale

Come on. This has nothing to do with you or the kind of boat you have.

These yachts exist and provide jobs and economic benefits wherever they are.

This isn't about class warfare.

Enjoy what...

This is a great boon to the area. These spots are needed and I expect they will sell out quickly.

The marine industry in south Florida is a real industry unlike most parts of the country. Miami...
