Re: Jib sheet knot catching on stays...

I have eye splices in my jib sheets and rather than lash them or use soft shackles I just run the tail through the eye. I used to have the same issue with my bowlines getting caught on my shrouds.

Re: What is the most idiotic mistake you have made on a boat?

We always take our wheel off the steering pedestal and store it in the cabin. First sail of the year last spring, I tell my daughter to let us off the mooring. I then realize, I haven't put the wheel...

Re: ACE Insurance

My policy on my 1980 Pearson 35 is through ACE. No claims to date. I've had the policy since 2002. Very little premium inflation until last year when it went up 25% and then another 13% this year....

Re: BVI May 2015

We are going back for our third charter in the BVIs this winter and have hit all the usual places, some of which we will go back to. But I also, want to hit a new spot or two that are off the beaten...

Re: Small cooler for weekending

I have the same issue on my P-35. Very large ice box without a lot of insulation. We also use the icebox for storage of nonperishables/drygoods. We have a large Coleman cooler that we use for cold...

Re: Boomkicker and winter storage

I would take the boom off completely over the winter. Are you going to shrink wrap the boat? Put a cover on? you don't want snow and moisture getting into crevices and freezing.

Re: Dinghy question

Bill,

Congratulations on your P-35, I've had one since 2001 (1980 hull #481). While I don't cruise with a dog I have friends who do, and I can tell you when you have dog duty you do not want to be...

Re: Dock or Dry Dock I can't make up my mind

We can't answer the question for you because we don't know how important that $1,000 is to you. Will you have to give up something else that is more important?

But generally speaking adding 15...

Re: When is your season over for the winter

Re: Time for a new dinghy - roll up vs. air vs. rigid floor

Before the season began I bought a 10' 10" Coastal PVC inflatable with aluminum floor. It weighs 99lbs. I've been very pleased so far, it has back splashes around the motor to keep back wash from...

Re: AC 35 Challenger of Record

Every other sailboat race in the world has boats, AC is supposed to be special, see if you can build a boat faster then mine. The only thing I would like to see is for more boats, err, jets to be...

Re: America's Cup opening races

I miss the 12 meters in Newport as well. However, the 12's were a bastardized version of the AC. The genesis of the AC was, I have a bad a**s boat come see if you can beat it.

80% of all sailing...

Re: Neverwet should have many boating applications

I wonder how good it is for keeping bird droppings from sticking to canvas. It might be a better water replent for dodgers.

Re: Rigging question - What's this for?

My guess is that it keeps the boom from moving and banging around when the sails are down.

Re: Cleaning a PVC dinghy

Answer: You pay more for it.:D I use Petit bottom paint for Inflatables. It has worked really well up here on Cape Cod. I just bought a new quart, it was $83 at West Marine, then I went to my local...

Re: Using Bottom Paint on Brass Propeller

I've been using Trilux prop and drive spray, with limited success. By the end of the season it is pretty much all worn off. But now that I look at the label, it says for "aluminum" props. "Copper as...

Re: First time on the water today, I could use some advice!

My understanding is that coming about and gybing are both forms of tacking. I could very well be wrong (and it wouldn't be the first time), but that is what I was taught. Hence, the skipper should...

Re: iling Into A Storm (img)

That looks like the wave my wife was describing to me as she gazed to the stern of our boat the first time we got caught in storm. (Yes, I know we were only in 5' seas, but you'd never know it from...

Re: Gelcoat Mildew-I'm so sick of gelcoat mildew

Granted, I'm in the NE, not the PNW, but I have never seen black mildew on a well cleaned and buffed gel coat that is protected by a wax finish. I get mildew on various surfaces (generally below...

Re: What kind of paint should I use?

If I had teak veneer on my cabin walls, I would strip it and varnish it. People pay good money for teak veneer. I just started stripping my varnished veneer cabin floor. I'm surprised how easily I am...

Re: Inflatable tender for 30' sailboat

I'm not sure who makes my motor lift, but on mine the arm folds folds down and the total storage space is basically two 2" diameter tubes side by side and the line in a bag. Requires very little...
