Re: Indy Canvas, Charleston, SC looking for good/bad experiences

We are currently in Charleston and are having an enclosure added to the cockpit. I would recommend the outfit we are using, and tell them Harry and Karen from Shangri-La recommended you.

They...

Re: Drogues & Sea Anchors onboard

Thanks for the response, asking in the Jeanneau owners forum is not a bad idea.

I'm clear on how vastly different our boats are, I'm just curious if the coastal cruisers here carry a sea anchor...

Drogues & Sea Anchors onboard

So after reading Hal Roth's "Handling Storms at Sea" again, I began to second guess our decision not to have a drogue (or sea anchor) onboard. I've talked to the sailors I know and of course their...

Eherlihy - That's the new textured bottom paint by Interlux. It’s meant to more accurately blend in with the environment :)

Help with cockpit enclosure planning

So after making our migration south for the winter later than expected and enjoying refreshing nighttime winds of 55kts and temps below 40 degrees on the way, the admiral has decided that we might be...

Re: Too much Oil

I don't know the perkings engine but, if the engine is turbocharged sometimes the turbo units will have a vent to releave overpressure in the oil. I know this is the case on some non boat engines, I...

Re: Anyone sailing south around Cape Hatteras?

I think you'll be ahead of us a good bit. We're not planning on leaving Annapolis till the 9th. If you're planning on hanging out in Charleston at all we may catch up and meet you there.

Re: liberty vs newport

I would go to Newport Yacht Club. It's closer to Washington street in Hoboken, which is where you'll find the local night life. Lots of restaurants, bars, etc.

Ask them, about damage, but I bet...

Re: Lightning protection- precision 18

Yea, there is no realistic way to protect the boat from being hit by lightning. We were hit 3 years ago.

The best protection for sailors is to have as small a gap as possible between the toerail...

Re: Scared to anchor....

You can always heave to if you want to take a break, cook or whatever, but yea, that anchor is along for the ride, don't plan on using it out in open ocean.

Re: what did I do wrong?!

I agree with everyone that you went into the situation with too much sail out.

When the helmsperson (See i can be politically correct) eased the mainsheet, I think I would have eased the jib...

Re: Anyone sailing south around Cape Hatteras?

Here's our plan. Our crew is just myself and my wife and ideally if we sail overnight the next night we like to be anchored/moored/at a slip. Doesn't have to be, but it's ideal.

Coming South, the...

Re: Anyone sailing south around Cape Hatteras?

The mast is 64 1/2, then add the antennas up there and you need a few more inches. I need to measure, but I think I need two additional feet.
When are you planning on coming out of Beaufort?

Re: Honda 9.9hp Outboard Won't Start

I could be sending you the wrong way here, but gas with ethanol has been a problem on a number of outboards that I know of when the fuel sits for more than 30 days. The ethanol starts to separate out...

Re: What liquor and wine do you stock on Board

Re: What liquor and wine do you stock on Board

We have red and white wine. Box wine is perfect for the boat. Easier to store, won't roll/break, handles the heat better and each box is 4 bottles worth. We found Bota box to be the best tasting. We...

Re: Jib halyard too tight

I know on my last boat (Jeanneau 43DS) if the main halyard was too tight the in mast furling system would not work as advertised. I wouldn't be surprised at all if tension would prevent the jib...

Re: jeanneau 44 ds air conditioning problem

It sounds like an HPF (high Pressure Failure) failure, not an electrical issue at all. I had the same problem a while back. Easy fix:

There's probably one large water intake leading to a pump and...
