Re: Maryland user tax for out of state boat

FL finally figured it out and in 2010 capped their 6% sales/use tax at $18,000.

Revenue is up!

MD used to let you keep the boat in MD without tax penalty if it was legitimately being repaired...

Re: Cal 36 VS Pearson 36

The 365 did come out in 1976 so maybe there were a couple of the older model also built that year?

Re: Cal 36 VS Pearson 36

That Pearson 36 that you show is the model that ended in 1975. You said it was a 1976 Pearson which would make it a 365 which is a great layout and has the stall shower. Most are ketches.

Re: 2014 Catalina 445 vs 1998 Oyster 45

I'm simply pointing out that the car analogy might not be the appropriate one to make.

Like you, there are boats that I would like as well but I didn't feel that telling the OP what those are...

Re: 2014 Catalina 445 vs 1998 Oyster 45

I wonder how many who bring up the Rolls Royce, Bentley or high end Mercedes/BMW comparison have ever owned these cars?

If they have then they realize how ridiculously expensive they are to...

Re: Broken Mast - Sleeve or Replace?

I don't know where you are located but these guys have lots of used stuff.

Best to call as they can't put it all on their site.

Re: What did you learn to sail on?

As an adult I took lessons on a Soling in Boston and then signed up for their Pearson 26 membership. I then owned; Winthrop Warner 31 Yawl (Wood was not good), Pearson 30, Pearson 424 and another...

Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

Marinas can't advertise on YachtWorld unless they are brokerages.

Someone already pointed out to you sailboatlistings.com which could be a good resource.

I'm not sure what offended you about my...

Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

Are you "shopping" or are you prepared to buy now?

There are lots of cheap boats in FL if that's where you want to live. I don't see that boats that you are describing are affected by seasons down...

Re: What Is A Boat Really Worth?

She was on several boards with her "expert" analysis of the process.

She also said at one point that she needed to convince her husband.

It's lot cheaper to have a "plan".

Re: Installing a windvane

Good point, it has been awhile since I had a TP.

Are TP's robust enough these days to handle most weather?

Re: Installing a windvane

Keep in mind that tiller pilots steer a course and vanes steer to the apparent wind. On a long trip especially with some bad weather a vane is probably a better choice.

Maybe buy the tiller pilot...

Re: A survey is not poetry

Surveys are a necessity of course but some of the customs seem strange to me.

One is the valuation process. Surveyors are not brokers or bankers. They donít buy and sell boats so how can they be...

Re: bad seas in the med!

I can't officially say. On a map, draw a 1500 mile radius from Moscow and see where it intersects the Med. That will give you an idea. :)

Re: Pearson 422 as offshore cruiser/liveaboard?

I also had a P 424. I believe that the 422 is the same hull? Nice boats.

Here is the blog of a cruising couple on a 422. There are others.

Re: bad seas in the med!

We once took a 40+ degree roll while on patrol in the Med in a submarine. We were coming up to periscope depth and at about 200' we got hit. What a mess. Back down we went.

Re: CS36 vs Morgan 38x vs Pearson 36-2/365 sloop

It's actually four choices as the 36-2 and the 365 are completely different boats. It's hard to beat a 365 for liveaboard. Nice layout, great tankage, nice galley and a stall shower. It was built...
